US State Department publishes, then deletes sadistic Venezuela hit list boasting of economic ruin
The Grayzone has obtained a list of "key outcomes" on Venezuela deleted out of apparent embarrassment by the State Department. It boasts of wrecking the nation's economy, destabilizing its military, and puppeteering its political opposition.
By Anya Parampil
On April 24, six days before self-proclaimed Venezuelan "interim president" Juan Guaido's attempt to violently overthrow Venezuela's democratically elected government alongside a handful of military defectors, the U.S. State Department published a fact sheet that boasted of Washington's central role in the ongoing coup attempt. After realizing the incriminating nature of its error, the State Department quickly acted to remove the page.
The Grayzone has obtained a full copy of the expunged report. The deleted page puts to bed any claims of Guaido's independence from Washington, as the State Department emphasizes the fact that he "announced his interim presidency... in January" at the the top of a section dedicated to breaking down "key outcomes" of U.S. efforts with regard to Venezuela.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Kimberly Breier recently took to Twitter to claim that "since he became acting president, Juan Guaido has given tangible results to the people of Venezuela." Her tweet was accompanied with an infographic detailing alleged accomplishments of the powerless coup administration based on data compiled by the legally defunct National Assembly, the only governing body actually controlled by Guaido.
But the Venezuela fact sheet posted and then deleted days earlier by the State Department told a dramatically different story.

China able to grab 'entire digital identity' of Western citizens, State Department says
Chinese surveillance tactics "pose an existential threat" to the nations of the Western Hemisphere, a senior State Department official warned Friday.
"Citizens living in democracies in the Western Hemisphere could potentially have their entire digital identity under the control and surveillance of an authoritarian government," Kimberly Breier, the State Department's top diplomat for the region, told the Council of the Americas.
Breier was chiefly addressing Latin America, with a focus on how China distributes surveillance technology and wireless internet services that leave Westerners exposed to Beijing's prying eyes. China has been selling its high-tech authoritarianism to dictators such as Venezuela's Nicolás Maduro, and even countries friendlier to the United States have been opening their telecommunications networks to Chinese tech companies.
FBI Director Christopher Wray, speaking separately at the Council on Foreign Relations, emphasized the same day that the Communist power is targeting the United States as aggressively as any regional neighbor.
"China has pioneered a societal approach to stealing innovation any way it can, from a wide array of businesses, universities, and organizations," Wray said. "They're doing this through Chinese intelligence services, through state-owned enterprises, through ostensibly private companies, through graduate students and researchers, and through a variety of actors working on behalf of China."

Univision Anchor Jorge Ramos and Team Detained in Venezuela During Maduro Interview
Univision News has said that one of their anchors, Jorge Ramos, and his team had been detained in Caracas, Venezuela, after the troubled nation's illegitimate socialist dictator, Nicolás Maduro, voiced his displeasure at an interview, the U.S. network tweeted on Monday night, Feb. 25. Although the team of six has supposedly since been released, the network said that the team's technical equipment had all been confiscated by Maduro's people.
According to Daniel Coronell, chief news and digital officer, the press team were detained after Maduro "didn't like the questions" in their interview. The team was detained in Miraflores Palace by Maduro's loyalists after the interview was cut short. In another tweet, the U.S. Department of State confirmed the news, saying that the journalist and his team were "being held against their will" by Maduro. It urged the regime to immediately release the members of the press.
"StateDept has received word the journalist Jorge Ramos and his team are being held against their will at Miraflores Palace by Nicolas Maduro," Kimberly Breier, assistant secretary in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, wrote. "We insist on their immediate release; the world is watching." An hour and a half later, Coronell tweeted that Venezuela's minister of communications had now assured him that Ramos and the rest of his team had been released and were "headed for their hotel," although he added that he had not been able to get in contact with the team to verify this. Another 15 minutes later, Univision News posted a photo confirming that Ramos and his team were back at the hotel.
Vice President Mike Pence joined regional leaders from the Lima Group of nations across Latin America and Canada earlier in the day in Bogotá, Columbia, to denounce the blocking of aid into Venezuela and announce new sanctions against Venezuelan regime leader Nicolas Maduro. Pence reaffirmed the full support of the United States towards interim Venezuelan President Juan Guaidó and his government. The event was the first meeting for the Lima Group since a failed push to get U.S.-donated aid into Venezuela. Aid trucks were being pushed back and set on fire-widely reported to be done at the hands of pro-Maduro criminal groups.
Nearly 300 were injured over the weekend as individuals, who were attempting to deliver the aid, clashed with Venezuela's National Guard and groups loyal to Maduro. Five people, including two who were indigenous to Venezuela's southern limit with Brazil, were killed. After Juan Guaidó called for a minute's silence for the five people who lost their lives in the aid initiative, Pence told the international press and presidents from across Latin America that it was "unconscionable that Maduro blocked hundreds of tonnes of aid from getting to his impoverished people," and repeatedly denounced that the dictator "danced while trucks full of aid and medicine burned."

Univision journalist Jorge Ramos and his team have been detained while interviewing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the network says. Details are still limited.
Ramos, a U.S. citizen who was born in Mexico, was interviewing Maduro at the Miraflores Palace when they were detained, according to the network. Ramos managed to call a colleague before his phone was taken.
The reason for their detention was not immediately clear, but U.S. Senator Marco Rubio claimed Ramos was detained because Maduro "didn't like" his questions.
Kimberly Breier, an official at the U.S. State Department, confirmed Ramos and his team were being held against their will. "We insist on their immediate release; the world is watching," she said.
