Q Research General #12432: Protestors At The White House Edition
>>9711919 White House adviser Kevin Hassett leaving administration
I love Kevin Hassett, I think one of the reasons he's leaving, in my opinion only, he's got personal matters to handle. Not bad mattered, just matters. I've watched all the videos from him early on, my thought only, I have no knowledge, but he doesn't look the same; perhaps the job and factors are too much.
He's a fantastic man and patriot and if I'm even close but regardless I will always say a prayer of thanks for what he has done for the president and the economy. I'll prayer for his health and happiness and to protect him always. He's been a happy warrior and has been a blessing to the administration.

'Is that like Soylent Green?' Trump adviser calls American workers 'human capital stock' & triggers cannibalism-themed meme storm
A White House adviser has triggered a wave of memes and mockery after referring to the US labor force as "human capital stock," drawing countless comparisons to the dystopian sci-fi flick 'Soylent Green' (spoiler: it's people).
In calling to reopen the US economy amid the ongoing Covid-19 crisis in an interview with CNN on Monday, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett noted that the country's "capital stock" was still intact, adding that "our human capital stock is ready to get back to work." Though the comment was meant to express a simple idea, Hassett's jargonistic wording conjured up much darker imagery for many netizens, who immediately saw parallels to 'Soylent Green' - the 1973 thriller in which human beings are ground up into food to nourish an overpopulated planet.
"Wtf is 'human capital stock?'" one netizen asked. "Is it akin to Soylent Green?"
Another commenter quipped that "human capital stock" would "make up for meat shortages" by the summer, possibly referring to the fact that a series of large food processing plants remain closed due to outbreaks and coronavirus containment policies, which remain in force across a number of states.
Some critics took up more serious responses to Hassett's remark, arguing that his choice of words was demeaning to workers.
"Who refers to working Americans as 'human capital stock?'" he asked. "Workers are not livestock, they shouldn't be treated like the ingredients for soylent green. All workers should be treated as essential and not disposable. Provide them with testing, PPE and respect."
A few skeptics also emerged, however, pointing out that the phrase might be more common than the detractors realize and questioning their outrage - joking that the "Soylent Green mills" won't come online until 2022 anyway (the year the movie is set).
Cannibalism jokes aside, with some 40 million Americans out of work amid statewide shutdowns to stem the spread of the coronavirus, food shortages are becoming a reality. A recent study at the Brookings Institution found that childhood food insecurity in the US had skyrocketed to unprecedented levels in April, as greater numbers of families stuck under lockdowns struggle to put adequate food on the table. While a man-made meal replacement is unlikely to debut anytime soon, the real-life scarcities appear set to grind on barring an end to the containment policies.

Mnuchin sees 'strong likelihood' of needing another COVID-19 relief bill
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Thursday said there is a "strong likelihood" that another coronavirus relief bill will be needed as more states start to reopen and the economy struggles to stabilize.
"We're going to carefully review the next few weeks," Mnuchin said in an interview with The Hill's Bob Cusack during a virtual event. "I think there is a strong likelihood we will need another bill, but we just have $3 trillion we're pumping into the economy."
"We're going to step back for a few weeks and think very clearly how we need to spend more money and if we need to do that," he added.
Mnuchin's comments - which came during the The Hill's Advancing America's Economy Summit, sponsored by Wells Fargo and Siemens - follow those of White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett, who said earlier this week that he thinks another coronavirus bill might not be necessary.
On Capitol Hill, Republicans and Democrats are divided over how to tackle additional legislation.
House Democrats last week passed a $3 trillion relief package, but Senate Republicans have said that bill is dead on arrival in their chamber. Some GOP senators have indicated they want to move quickly on another measure, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has signaled a desire to move more slowly in order to first evaluate what is and isn't working from previous relief bills that were signed into law.
One point of division that has emerged is unemployment insurance.
McConnell told House Republicans on Wednesday that the $600-per-week boost to unemployment insurance that was part of legislation passed in March would not be included in the next bill.
Republicans have criticized the boost, arguing that it is a disincentive for people to return to working. But Democrats argue that the enhanced unemployment benefits should be extended because they are critical to helping the millions of people who have lost their jobs in the past couple of months.
Mnuchin said Thursday that "we do need to fix the quirk" with the unemployment expansion that results in some people receiving more in unemployment benefits than they did in wages when they were working.
Mnuchin said he last spoke with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) last week, but that conversation was focused on the execution of the $2.2. trillion law Trump signed on March 27, not subsequent legislation.

=Trump's top economic adviser Kevin Hassett admits he is 'scared to go back to work' at the White House and says it's 'safer sitting at home than going to the West Wing'
One of Donald Trump's top economic advisers admitted Sunday that it's 'scary' to think about going back to work, voicing his own concerns about working at the White House in the midst of the pandemic.
'It is scary to go to work,' Kevin Hassett told CBS News Sunday morning. 'I think that I'd be a lot safer if I was sitting at home than I would be going to the West Wing. But, you know, it's the time when people have to step up and serve their country.'
The comments come after one of Trump's personal valets and Vice President Mike Pence's spokeswoman, Katie Miller, both tested positive for coronavirus.
Several administration and task force officials, including top immunologist Dr. Anthony Fauci, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn and the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Robert Redfield, are quarantining after potential exposure to the disease.

Trump WON'T bail out states, but could help cover 'unexpected' costs of Covid-19 lockdown - adviser
US President Donald Trump is open to compensating hard-hit states for expenses incurred in their Covid-19 responses - but isn't looking at complete bailouts, his economic adviser said, after Congress was asked to send aid.
"Of course if we go to a phase-four deal, I think President Trump has signaled that, while he doesn't want to bail out the states, he's willing to help cover some of the unexpected Covid expenses that might have come their way," White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett told CNN.
In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the federal government is not going to bail out states that were "poorly" managed.
The so-called 'phase four' coronavirus-related relief package is currently in the works in Congress, after many businesses across the country were forced to shut down and more than 20 million Americans lost their jobs in April alone due to the lockdown.
Politicians in states like Illinois and Maryland have urged Congress to send financial aid in order to stabilize the states' budgets and help their struggling cities. Trump, however, has strongly opposed the idea of bailing out states, arguing that such a step would be unfair to Republicans because "all the states that need help, they're run by Democrats in every case."

Pool left the Oval at 12:12 pm.
Before we departed, President Trump said the executive order on the food supply will be done today. He said we could speak to Chief of Staff Mark Meadows later for more details about what it is.
"We'll have that done today," Trump said of the order.
DeSantis was asked about potentially resuming tourism in the state.
"We have to make safety a priority … I do think there's a path to do that," DeSantis said.
DeSantis noted "we didn't have outbreaks" tied to Disney being open in March and other activity in state early this year.
Trump was asked about the economy.
"I think the fourth quarter's going to be really strong and I think next year's going to be a tremendous year," he said.
Trump invited Kevin Hassett and Larry Kudlow to speak. Hassett deferred to Kudlow, who said, we we are in "a deep contraction" with a lot of "hardship." He touted the size of the rescue package given out so far.
"It's very bad. … We're doing what we can," Kudlow said.
Kudlow said he is "optimistic about the future." He acknowledged this is "the worst we've seen" but said it would be "temporary."
Trump was asked to follow up on the comments he made yesterday about Kim Jong Un.
"I just don't want to comment on that … I just wish him well," Trump said.
He did not respond to a question about whether Kim is still alive.
Trump said Dems are "enjoying their vacation" and "don't want to come back" to DC. When pressed if he really believed Democrats are enjoying this, Trump pointed to recent video of Nancy Pelosi and said she is "eating ice cream."
Again, please check all this against the video these are rough quotes.

White House brings back economic adviser who warned pandemic could cause Great Depression
Economist Kevin Hassett, who recently predicted a bad recession due to the coronavirus pandemic, is returning to the White House as an adviser to President Trump on economic policy, a White House official confirmed. Hassett was the chairman of Trump's White House Council of Economic Advisers from 2017 to 2019. A spokeswoman for the council told the Washington Examiner that Hassett was returning to the White House "to advise on economic policy in his personal capacity," not as a government employee.
In television appearances earlier this week, Hassett warned of the catastrophic consequences of the coronavirus on the American economy. If everyone stays home for six months, "it's going to be like the Great Depression," Hassett said on CNN on Monday. The April jobs report will be '"the worst jobs number you ever saw," Hassett added.
Hassett is a respected conservative economist who advised George W. Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney during each of their respective presidential campaigns. He was most recently a resident scholar at the conservative American Enterprise Institute before joining the Trump administration in 2017. Before his first stint in the White House, he was confirmed by the Senate in an 81-16 vote, garnering support from Democrats as well. "I think that the odds of a global recession are close to 100% right now," said Hassett on CNN on Monday. "I think in the U.S., we're going to have a very terrible second quarter," he added.
The White House is currently waiting for Congress to pass a massive $1 trillion stimulus plan to help workers and companies hurt by the effort to control the coronavirus.

Trump to propose plan to make U.S. immigration more merit-based
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump will outline on Thursday a plan to harden border security and overhaul the legal immigration system to favor applicants who speak English, are well-educated and have job offers, senior administration officials said. Trump's immigration proposal, the product largely of senior advisers Jared Kushner and Stephen Miller and economic aide Kevin Hassett, is an effort to rally Republicans on an issue that has often divided them.
While its chances of approval by Congress seem distant, the plan will give Republicans an outline they can say they favor as Trump and lawmakers look toward the November 2020 presidential and congressional elections, where immigration will likely be a key issue. For decades, U.S. immigration laws have given priority to family-based immigration, and about two-thirds of all people granted green cards each year have family ties to people in the United States.
Trump's plan would keep legal immigration steady at 1.1 million people a year, but family-based immigration would account for only a third of that. Instead, high-skilled people with jobs would be given priority, and could bring with them their spouses and children, the officials told reporters at a White House briefing on Wednesday. It would harden the border by building more of Trump's coveted southern border wall and improve inspections of goods and people at ports of entry to fight drug smuggling. It would propose an increase in fees collected at the border to pay for border security infrastructure.

Q Research General #8055: Nothing Is Going To Stop US Edition
President Kushner to Present Trump With His Immigration Plan In Coming Days
President Kushner announced Tuesday he'll be presenting his "humanitarian" immigration plan to White House aide Donald Trump for looking over in the coming days.
No doubt supporters of former President Donald Trump will be giddy to see all the wonders President Kushner has in store for our country's immigration laws after his Democrat-approved criminal justice reform and all his other greatest hits!
From The Hill, "Kushner says he'll present immigration plan to Trump in coming days":
White House senior adviser Jared Kushner said Tuesday that he's preparing an immigration plan to present to President Trump in the coming days.
Kushner said at Time magazine's Time 100 Summit that he's put together "a very detailed proposal" that encompasses three major themes: improving border security, moving toward a so-called merit-based system and maintaining "our country's humanitarian values."
"I do believe that the president's position on immigration has been maybe defined by his opponents by what he's against as opposed to what he's for," Kushner said.
You see folks, all Trump needs to do to win Democrats over is change his messaging!
President Kushner understands this, he's "extraordinarily smart"!
The president has been involved in crafting the proposal, Kushner said.
[…] Kushner said the border security aspect would look at using physical barriers and technology to "keep illegal goods and keep out people who are coming in illegally while also facilitating trade and the flow of legal people as quickly and as efficiently as possible."
We need immigrants to come in legally in the "largest numbers ever" – just like they're coming in illegally in the largest numbers ever!
This is what KAG (Keep America Great) is all about!
Kushner claimed the pitch has the support of multiple factions in the White House, including hard-liner Stephen Miller, who has been behind the administration's efforts to curb the flow of immigrants into the country and a recent leadership shakeup at the Department of Homeland Security.
The president's son-in-law and adviser disputed that he and Miller have fought over the issue.
"I've had both Stephen Miller and [Council of Economic Advisers Chairman] Kevin Hassett involved, and I think they both agree with what this is," Kushner said. "And I say that if I can get Stephen Miller and Kevin Hassett to agree on an immigration plan, then Middle East peace will be easy by comparison."
Is there anything this kid can't do?!?!

Hassett told FBN disposable income for the average American went up $2,300 in 2018.
The Trump economy created almost 2 million more jobs in 2018.

[Summary]
On Tuesday, Trump said he was willing to take the risk of closing the border, effectively cutting off trade with one of the United States' largest trading partners and shutting down an important international commerce hub.
"Sure, it will have a negative effect on the economy," he told reporters at the time. "It's a very big trading partner. But to me, trading is very important, the borders are very important, but security is what is most important. I mean we have to have security."
In recent days his aides, including his top economic advisers Kevin Hassett and Larry Kudlow, have implored him to consider what the move would cost while elsewhere in the administration they have looked for ways to limit the impact while carrying out his request.
Trump appeared Thursday to have heeded those warnings, though he also claimed that his threats alone had paid off.
"So for the last four days, and you actually have covered it to a minor extent, Mexico has been capturing people and bringing them back to their countries at their southern border," he said.
"They've been taking people under their very powerful laws - they have the right to do it - and bringing them back to where they came from. That is about three days now, I guess, since frankly since they heard I was going to close the border."
The White House has been adamant that Trump is not bluffing about shuttering the border, which the president reiterated Thursday.
"I will do it. You know I will do it, I don't play games, I'll do it," he told reporters. But he suggested that tariffs would be a strong-enough motivator.
"Mexico understands that we're going to close the border or I'm gonna tariff the cars - I'll do one or the other, and probably start off with the tariffs, that'll be a very powerful incentive."

"The American economy is a tremendous engine of prosperity when politicians get out of the way, and for proof look no further than Thursday's report on fourth-quarter growth," The Wall Street Journal editorial board writes. "Tax reform and deregulation, take a bow."
Yesterday, the White House Council of Economic Advisers reported that America's economy achieved 3 percent growth for the first time in 13 years in 2018. Its Chairman, Kevin Hassett, "made these predictions in the heat of the 2017 tax reform debate and was ridiculed by progressive economists . . . But the evidence of the last two years is that deregulation and tax reform spurred private capital investment exactly when a long-in-the-tooth expansion needed it to avoid recession."

"Sometimes you have to walk, and this was just one of those times," President Donald J. Trump said as he prepared to leave Vietnam following his summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un this week. Good for the President, the New York Post editorial board says. "Just what we expected in noting the other day that 'his history suggests he's always willing to walk away from a deal that's not good enough.'"

In USA Today, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL) write that students deserve freedom to choose their education options-and the government's outdated approach to education too often limits their full potential. That's why the Administration is putting forward "a historic investment in America's students: the Education Freedom Scholarships and Opportunity Act." These scholarships "would annually give hundreds of thousands of students across the country opportunities to find the right fit for their education."
The New York Police Department has received information that members of the MS-13 gang are "looking to 'hit'" police officers in certain parts of Long Island "to enhance their credibility within the gang," Tina Moore and Stephanie Pagones report in the New York Post. "The violent gang, which started on the West Coast and has ties to Central America, has been expanding its brutal activities in New York City recently and has been coming into more frequent contact with the NYPD."
"After the Space Shuttle program concluded in 2011, it appeared that Florida's Space Coast would turn into a 'Ghost Coast,' a graveyard of abandoned dreams . . . But not anymore. Thanks to the combined innovation and ingenuity of private companies and NASA, the United States' space industry is transitioning from public sector dependence to private sector dominance," Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross writes in the Orlando Sentinel.

Thank You, Tax Reform
The American economy is a tremendous engine of prosperity when politicians get out of the way, and for proof look no further than Thursday's report on fourth-quarter growth. It's clearer than ever that business investment has rescued the U.S. economy by shifting into a higher gear. Tax reform and deregulation, take a bow.
Tax reform arrived in 2018, removing the roadblock of the highest corporate tax rate in the world and inviting companies to repatriate profits held abroad. Investment picked up almost exactly as chief White House economist Kevin Hassett predicted it would. He predicted growth for the year would rise by 3.1% in 2018 on a fourth-quarter to fourth-quarter basis, and growth came in exactly at 3.1%.
Mr. Hassett made these predictions in the heat of the 2017 tax reform debate and was ridiculed by progressive economists. One quote that doesn't age well came from Larry Summers, the former Barack Obama adviser, who wrote in the Washington Post that tax reform would make no difference unless "you believe in tooth fairies and ludicrous supply-side economics."

Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney has asked federal agencies to provide lists of key programs that could be endangered if the partial government shutdown drags on until March or April, an administration official confirmed on Wednesday.
Mulvaney has asked for the information by Friday, a request that was was first reported by The Washington Post.
The request is one of the clearest signs yet that the White House is preparing for a shutdown of indefinite length that could have a significant impact on the economy.
President Trump's top economist said earlier Wednesday that the shutdown, which has entered its 33rd day, could wipe out an entire quarter's worth of gross domestic product growth if it lasts until March.
"Yes, we could," Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Kevin Hassett said on CNN when asked if the U.S. could see no growth in that scenario. "It is true that if we get a typically weak first quarter and then have an extended shutdown that we could end up with a number that's very, very low."
Officials also appear to be concerned about the effect on government services. Around 800,000 employees have either been furloughed or are working without pay, but there is also concern about food-stamp benefits, farm programs and the operations of the federal court system.
Walk-outs among Transportation Security Administration workers have caused long security lines at major airports, which has generated national media coverage. The problem could become worse this week, when workers are set to miss a second paycheck.
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has also been tasked with communicating with agencies about their operations during the shutdown and finding ways to keep services running, despite the lapse in funding.
"Prudent management means planning and preparing for events without known end-dates," said a senior OMB official who requested anonymity to discuss the activities. "As OMB continues to manage this partial lapse in appropriations, unfunded agencies are being asked to continue to share with OMB an ongoing list of programs that could be impacted within the coming weeks."

HUGE! President Trump's Policies Have Added $3,100 per Household in Gross Annual Income - In Only 2 Years (VIDEO)
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!
Of course, it will be ignored by the liberal mainstream media.
Kevin Hassett, the Council of Economic Advisers Chairman, joined Lou Dobbs last night to discuss the booming American economy.
The US is enjoying an average GDP growth rate near or above 3%.
In comparison, a high-taxed state like France only sees growth at .3%.
Trump took the economy and accelerated it on all levels. And now all Americans are seeing the benefits of a booming Trump economy.
Kevin Hassett, told Lou under Trump there have now been 500,000 manufacturing jobs created, something failed president Barack Obama said was impossible. And the added surprise relative to the GDP is the president has delivered $3,100 per household to gross domestic income.

US Economy Smashes Expectations Adding 312,000 Jobs in December
The U.S. economy beat expectations in December, adding 312,000 jobs, according to the official figures released by the Department of Labor on Jan. 4. Wall Street analysts expected the United States to gain 180,000 jobs in December. The official numbers beat the Wall Street estimate by 43 percent. The jobs gain is the biggest in 10 months and can help allay a recent upsurge in fears about the economy's health that has roiled financial markets.
The unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percent from 3.7 percent in November. In December last year, the unemployment rate stood at 4.1 percent. The average hourly wage rose 3.2 percent from the same time last year. Most of the jobs gains were in health care, food service, construction, manufacturing, and retail, the Labor Department said. The health care industry added 50,000 jobs, the most of any industry. Food service and construction sectors followed with 41,000 and 38,000 jobs respectively.
The upbeat employment report from the Labor Department on Friday stood in stark contrast with reports this week showing Chinese factory activity contracting for the first time in 19 months in December and weak manufacturing across much of Europe and Asia. Data for October and November was revised to show 58,000 more jobs added than previously reported. The economy created 2.6 million jobs last year compared to 2.2 million in 2017.
The December employment surge pushed the total U.S. employment past 150 million jobs for the first time in history. '"This is the 12th jobs report following the historic rewrite of our nation's tax code, and the trend remains the same: strong growth for America," Rep. Kevin Brady said in a statement. "This is what Republicans aimed for with the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act-this full year of major job and wage gains is worth celebrating."'
The partial government shutdown does not affect the Labor Department, which will continue publishing jobs figures. Meanwhile, reports from the Census Bureau and Bureau of Economic Analysis have been suspended pending a resolution to an impasse between the Democrats and Republicans over border wall funding. The shutdown, if it continues, could affect payrolls in January. Kevin Hassett, chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, told reporters on Jan. 3 that federal government worker furloughs could translate to "a big negative" in the January jobs numbers. But the workers will ultimately be paid, he added.
The strong employment report likely keeps the Federal Reserve on course to continue raising interest rates this year, deepening its rift with President Donald Trump, who has chastised the Fed and its chairman, Jerome Powell, repeatedly for the rate increases. Powell is due to appear on a panel with his two predecessors about two hours after the report's release. The central bank is on a rate hike spree since late 2016. In the eight years before Trump, the Fed kept the rate at a historic low. The president doesn't agree with the current course and has referred to the Fed as a "bigger problem than China."

Trump's Top Economic Adviser Says Shutdown Won't Affect Economy
The partial government shutdown initiated after Democrats refused to fund President Donald Trump's $5.7 billion border wall will not significantly impact the economy, according to a top Trump economic advisor.
Kevin Hassett, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, told reporters Wednesday that some federal employees might miss a payday because of the government shutdown. Any overall impact on the economy would be minimal after the furloughed workers receive backpay after Congress passes a spending bill. (RELATED: Federal Workers Will Get Holiday Paychecks Even If Government Shuts Down)
The federal government went into a partial shutdown Friday night at midnight after Congress failed to come to a consensus on a spending bill. House Republicans passed a version of a spending bill that included $5.7 billion border wall between the U.S. and Mexico. The bill died in the Senate after Democrats largely refused to support it.
Recent volatility in the stock market has led some to blame the government shutdown for the unpredictable market behavior. The U.S. stock market took the largest Christmas Eve plunge in history Monday. The market bounced back Wednesday as the Dow rose as much as 562 points.

'Stay away from China,' White House top economist tells U.S. businesses
Krystal HuReporter
,Yahoo Finance-October 6, 2018
As trade tensions escalate between the U.S. and China, Washington is sending a warning to U.S. companies: Think twice about doing business with China.
"If I were a business, I would basically just stay away from China right now. Their misbehavior is so terrible." Kevin Hassett, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers said on Yahoo Finance's Market Mover Friday. "That's why President Trump is taking a hard line with them. They've got to change the way they behave if they want to be part of this modern world global economy."
Hassett also cited the bombshell story from Bloomberg Businessweek, which claims China's military deployed a microchip to attack hardware in the supply chain and had infiltrated U.S. tech giants like Amazon and Apple. Both companies have denied the report. But it still raised many concerns about Chinese electronic manufacturers. Hong Kong-listed Lenovo and ZTE saw share prices drop by 15% and 10%, respectively, on Friday.
Hassett's sentiment was widely echoed by the Trump administration. In an aggressive speech about China on Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence claimed Beijing "directed its bureaucrats and businesses to obtain American intellectual property". He also called out Google to end its project of developing a censored search engine for China, a market the internet giant exited in 2010.
he ongoing trade negotiation adds many uncertainties to U.S. companies that are planning to access the Chinese market, with its population of 1.3 billion and an expanding middle class. American companies have been active in the Chinese economy since the reform period in the late 1970s, investing hundreds of billions of dollars. President Trump has said the U.S. rebuilt China.
Meanwhile, China has become the growth engine of some U.S. companies. Starbucks (SBUX) is among the biggest success stories. Since opening its first store in Beijing in 1999, the Seattle-based coffee chain now runs 3,400 stores and plans to open a new one every 15 hours through 2022.
Apple's premium iPhones are red-hot status symbols in China, where the iPhone maker (AAPL) reported $13 billion in revenue during its fiscal second quarter this year, contributing more than 20% to its global revenue.
Now U.S. businesses are facing a more complicated situation against the backdrop of the trade disputes. Tesla (TSLA), the high-profile electric car maker, is caught in the rising geopolitical fight. The company said the trade conflict has led to a 40% retaliatory tariff on Tesla vehicles exported to China. Exports to the country accounted for about 20% of Tesla's automotive revenue during 2017, according to Moody's.
U.S. companies operating in China have already felt the pinch of the trade war, but it's hard for them to walk away, citing difficulties moving a supply chain or creating a new one over a short period of time. More than 60% of U.S. companies have been hurt by tariffs imposed by both countries, according to a survey by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Beijing and Shanghai.
"We support President Trump's efforts to reset U.S.-China trade relations, address long-standing inequities and level the playing field. But we can do so through means other than blanket tariffs," Eric Zheng, chairman of AmCham Shanghai, said in a statement last month.

Trump admin official says that the US is 'very, very close' to signing a trade deal without Canada
A Trump administration official announced on Friday that a trade deal with Mexico was "very, very close" to proceeding without Canada, as the U.S. and its northern neighbor try to hash out a deal before an Oct. 1 deadline.
Is Canadian politics to blame?
During a Fox News interview on Friday, Kevin Hassett, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, said, "We're still talking to Canada, and we're getting very, very close to the deadline where we're going to have to move ahead with Mexico all by themselves."
Hassett blamed the delay on Canadian politics:
I worry that politics in Canada is trumping common sense, because there's a very good deal that was designed by Mexico and the U.S. to appeal to Canada and they're not signing up, and it's got everybody over here a little bit puzzled. And so, hopefully at the last minute they'll come in. But if they don't we'll just move ahead with Mexico and we'll get Canada fixed a little bit later.
Canada has objected to the Trump administration's request to allow tariffs on Canadian auto imports, and the two nations have disagreed over how to handle future trade dispute settlements and Canada's massive dairy industry.
Canada strictly regulates its dairy industry and slaps heavy tariffs on dairy imports, in order to keep milk artificially more expensive thus making it more profitable for its farmers.
Canadian trade minister Chrystia Freeland has noted that even with these systems in place, Canada imported five times as much dairy products from the U.S. as it exported to the U.S.
"I would call that a pretty good deal," Freeland told Canada's House of Commons.
Wait...what happened to NAFTA?
Trump has dismissed the 26-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement as "the worst trade deal in history."
During a televised call on Aug. 27 with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Trump praised the progress the two countries had made toward creating a new trade deal. Trump said during that call that if negotiations with Canada failed, he would "like to call this deal the U.S. and Mexico Trade Agreement" because the name NAFTA "lot of bad connotations."

The Clickbait Era, Donald Trump and plunging trust in media
The Huffington Post headline was designed to get its anti-Trump readers to click.
"Kellyanne Conway: Trump's Anti-Media Attacks 'Are Not Healthy.'"
What? Was she saying this publicly? Was even the president's counselor off the reservation?
But it turned out to be a blatant distortion.
Here's what Conway actually said, when asked by Christiane Amanpour on her new PBS show whether "the president might take a stance of his own to pull back from this," meaning attacks on the media.
"I do agree that it's not healthy for the body politic on either side," Kellyanne said. She said that she and others "have tried, the president has tried, to turn down the temperature, to give more access."
So Conway's it's-unfortunate-both-sides-do-it-but-we've-tried-to-fix-it sentiment got twisted into her criticizing her boss. And what the short piece didn't mention was that she also said this: "We see things every single day on TV and in print that I promise you, I swear to God, are patently false."
This is why people don't trust the press.
And yes, the obvious rejoinder to that the White House sometimes struggles with the truth. On Monday, economic adviser Kevin Hassett said the president was wrong when he tweeted that "the GDP Rate (4.2%) is higher than the Unemployment Rate (3.9%) for the first time in over 100 years!" It's actually 10 years. (But those figures do show a booming economy.)
Still, pointing to presidential misstatements and distortions doesn't let the press off the hook when it comes to accuracy and fairness.
A new study out yesterday from the Knight Foundation and Gallup shows that most Americans are losing faith in the media, and their reasons largely center on matters of accuracy or bias. A stunning 69 percent of adults say they have lost trust in the media over the past decade, a figure that rises to 94 percent for Republicans. Among Democrats, 42 percent have lost trust, and the number is 75 percent for independents.
Those of us in the news business have company. Social media, run by the tech giants, were once seen as a liberating and democratic force. Now there are deep suspicions of Big Tech, and its increasingly maligned leaders have lost their heroic glow.
Here, too, self-inflicted wounds play a major role. These outfits were slow to police their sites, combat Russian propaganda, address the scourge of bullying and fabrication and-in an echo of the MSM's plight-are regularly assailed for discriminating against the right.
As NYT columnist Nathaniel Popper puts it: "Admiration of the tech world has, in the wake of a growing list of scandals, quickly soured into an intense suspicion that manages to cross partisan lines, similar to what Wall Street faced after 2008."
Now Facebook, Twitter, Google and the like resemble a machine that its makers can no longer control, even if they are willing to spend the vast sums that would require.
All these doubts seem weaponized in the age of Trump, given that much of the country distrusts the president and a sizable chunk of the country admires the president while distrusting his adversaries.
This constant warfare, which Kellyanne alluded to, leads to sinking confidence in both sides, as the White House and the press routinely trade charges of lying and bias. It's as though airlines were constantly running ads accusing the others of being unsafe.
Things have reached the point where not only do many people believe the New York Times shouldn't have published the op-ed by the unnamed senior official, but some accuse the paper of outright deception by saying the author actually works there. That is of a piece with Bob Woodward describing a dysfunctional administration and the president accusing the veteran journalist of writing fiction and making up sources.
Maybe, in another time and place, the media and other institutions can regain some of the trust they have lost. Some people in the Knight study, at least, say they're open to that. But it doesn't seem to be on the horizon any time soon.

FACT CHECK: Who Gets Credit For The Booming U.S. Economy?
NPR cant avoid the truth anymore???
The U.S. economy is chugging along. Employers added 201,000 jobs last month, and the unemployment rate held steady at a low, 3.9 percent. Average wages in August were nearly 3 percent higher than they were a year ago.
Who should get the credit for that strong performance?
At a campaign rally in North Dakota last week, President Trump boasted that he's responsible for the economy taking off like a "rocket ship."
But Trump's predecessor wants to remind everyone that the countdown began on his watch.
"When you hear how great the economy is doing right now, let's just remember when this recovery started," former President Barack Obama told supporters Friday at the University of Illinois.
This is not just a question of bragging rights. With midterm elections less than two months away, voters' impressions of who deserves credit for the boom could influence which political party they support in November.
Let's stipulate that presidents of both parties often get more credit and blame for economic conditions than they deserve, given that much of what happens is outside their control. But setting that aside, is Trump simply coasting on the momentum of an already strong Obama economy? Or have things turned around on his watch?
White House economist Kevin Hassett insists that Trump deserves the credit.
"I can promise you that economic historians will 100 percent accept the fact that there was an inflection at the election of Donald Trump and a whole bunch of data items started heading north," said Hassett, who chairs the council of economic advisers.
"Inflection" is just a fancy word for turning point. So Hassett is arguing that conditions since Trump was elected are significantly different than conditions were before.
It's hard to see such a turning point in major economic yardsticks such as jobs, unemployment, or wages.

Potus kicking China out of WTO if they dont pull their shit together
The chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers suggested Monday that the U.S. and other members of the World Trade Organization may have to kick China out of the world trade body if it doesn't start playing by the rules.
Kevin Hassett said China for too long has flouted intellectual property rights rules, and said it could find itself outside the WTO if it doesn't start respecting those rules.
"China really needs to make up its mind," Hassett said on Fox Business News. "Do they want to be in the community of nations, do they want to be part of the WTO and just behave like everybody else, or don't they?"
"And if they don't, then we, the community of nations, are going to have to think about what are we going to do about that?" he asked. "Are we going to let them stay in the WTO?"

Q Research AUSTRALIA #7 - FIRE & FURY Edition
World watching Australia for virus response: Trump adviser
US President Donald Trump's former economic adviser Kevin Hassett says Australia's response to the virus crisis should not be tax cuts but direct cash injections into businesses, ensuring jobs and cash flows are maintained.
Dr Hassett, who supported Donald Trump's $US1.5 trillion tax cut, favours a faster direct stimulus and relief such as payroll tax holidays - something for which various state governments are preparing.
The former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, who is in Australia for The Australian Financial Review Business Summit, said the world was watching how Australia dealt with the crisis because of its reliable data on raw material exports to China.
He is also betting that the crisis won't be drawn out and that the stockmarket will still be a good investment over the long term, despite the local sharemarket recording its worst session since the global financial crisis.
"A corporate tax cut right now would not be good because you would not get that much purchase out of it. It won't be super-effective in the short term," Dr Hassett said.
"A lot of businesses are cash-strapped. I have just been up to the Blue Mountains and everyone was talking about how empty the place is of tourists.
"The big companies won't be hindered by liquidity yet. But the problem is people are staying home and inventories are not where they are supposed to be. So this could lead to layoffs. When things dry up quickly, firms could end up with a liquidity crisis."
If the virus spread beyond April then concerns about credit markets would intensify and the effectiveness of central banks, monetary policy would be questioned.
After announcing Dr Hassett's departure last June from the Council of Economic Advisers, President Trump tweeted that the economist was a "true friend". Dr Hassett has a similar view of Mr Trump, suggesting he was a "joy to work with".
Dr Hassett said he did not know whether the crisis would assist in Mr Trump's re-election but said its characteristics were similar to those of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
"It is comparable to 9/11 because everyone thought the attacks were going to be global and security was ramped up. For a month or two after, markets were still panicking.
"I think this virus has spread so rapidly that I think it's creating such a big unknown like we have never seen before."
What has exacerbated the impact on international sharemarkets has been poor information. "The Chinese data are so difficult to read," Mr Hassett said, "And so I think Australia's data on exports to China are going to be watched very carefully because Australian data is so solid."
"I would also expect that, because Australia is so close to China that this will end up being a net negative for you.
"But markets go up and down. I don't think anyone thinks this will be a permanent shock. We have learnt that over time stocks go back up."
Dr Hassett, who authored a book in the late 1990s called Dow 36,000, argued that the sharemarket was a good place for long-term investment.
"If the long-run growth path is unaffected by the current crisis, then earnings will eventually grow again. Over long time horizons, compounding of growth has tended to overwhelm short-term panics."

Viewers commented on the removal of Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker of the House, the first ouster of a speaker in the chamber's history. The previous day, eight Republicans and all Democrats voted to remove him from his leadership post. His critics said he did not keep promises made to them when he campaigned for the position, and his supporters said the move throws the House into uncertainty, especially with a November 17 government funding deadline approaching.
