Netflix chief marketing officer to leave

(Reuters) - Netflix Inc said on Thursday Chief Marketing Officer Kelly Bennett will step down after seven years in the role, during which the online video-streaming giant's paid subscribers jumped five-fold to 139 million.

Bennett, who joined in 2012 after spending nearly a decade with Warner Brothers, was responsible for launching Netflix's popular franchises such as "House of Cards"?, "Orange is the New Black"?, and "Narcos".

"The past seven years have been the most rewarding of my professional life, and we are at the top of our game, which is why this was the right moment for me to retire," Bennett said in a post.

His exit comes when Netflix is investing billions of dollars on original content to fend off intensifying competition in the streaming space.

Bennett is the latest high-profile exit in the past one year. Finance chief David Wells stepped down in August, while communication head Jonathan Friedland left last June over an 'insensitive' comment.

Bennett, 46, will stay on for a transitional period until a new CMO is named, the company said in its post.

Out of all the media companies, NFLX is operated in a very unique way. It's financials are in any case.
Familiar with the insider sales as that is no surprise.

nothing too unique about that as every company is designed to enrich the owners through stock options and buybacks. NFLX CEO is a cash printing (for himself) MACHINE. "Reed" Hastings has lived very well on the backs of his workers and ability to never have to pay off ANY content acquisition charges.

They have always had a different set of rules.

With the recent, confirmed, revelations of just how these media /tech co's were really being funded it is an interesting fact that NFLX has never monitized it's brand name. You never see branded items such as hats, shirts etc.

"reed" (not his real name btw) has stated that his morality would not allow him to monitize his loyal customer base. Nice story and feels good, to them, to hoist that steaming pile of shit onto the public. However ask yourself these questions about NFLX:

-Never monitized it's WW brand image (hats, sunglasses, "crap"
-Has claimed over many years that it does not sell it's customer data. Sure…
-Has the unique financial ability to make deals in the billions of $'s to acquire content and never actually show a trail of having made payments on these liabilty's. In fact, a large portion of it's debt is magically off the books. At last count it was hovering around $30b
-Has, as a company and individual, been a large benefactor to Cal dem party and "reed" has injected himself into the crafting and implementation of Cal State k-12 teaching standards.

These are all public knowledge and plenty of sauce available.

How does NFLX get a free pass on just about everything it does? Black money and connections.

NFLX was hated in it's infancy as any disruptive tech or business is. From my knowledge the very first short position was taken by Kynikos (Chanos) and after all these years of being 'wrong' I believe that original position is still active. Papered over and over by the cheap money available to everyone. Why wouldn't you?
Seems NFLX caries 5x (or more) it's stated debt load with a declining subscriber acquisition growth rate as well. They stopped reporting its SAC or Subscriber Acquisition Cost years ago as it was in the $30 range for each sub in about 2008.

NFLX is about the only company that has not been picked apart by any of this up to this point. A few things here and there, i.e.

My point with this is when you look at the BOD as well as the above information is it not obvious who controls this operation?
The term "Vapor-ware" does not even come close to describing how this company's finances are put together. It's a disservice to the term Vapor.
If you look up Hastings background it's fairly benign however it's not very clear who his father is other than a name. Reed is not his first name that's for sure. Do not know if that is important or not.
BTW has there ever been a more over-the-top corporate headquarters such as this?

Netflix Chief Financial Officer David Wells is stepping down.

Wells, who has been CFO since 2010, will stay on the job until he can help choose a successor, the company announced Monday.

Netflix's stock was down slightly in early trading.

Wells said he intends to focus on philanthropy.

Here's the full announcement from Netflix:

Netflix Inc. announced today that Chief Financial Officer David Wells plans to step down after helping the company choose his successor. The search will include both internal and external candidates.

Wells, who joined Netflix in 2004 and has served as CFO since 2010, intends to stay until his successor takes the role to ensure a smooth transition.

"It's been 14 wonderful years at Netflix, and I'm very proud of everything we've accomplished," Wells said. "After discussing my desire to make a change with Reed, we agreed that with Netflix's strong financial position and exciting growth plans, this is the right time for us to help identify the next financial leader for the company. Personally, I intend my next chapter to focus more on philanthropy and I like big challenges but I'm not sure yet what that looks like."

"David has been a valuable partner to Netflix and to me. He skillfully managed our finances during a phase of dramatic growth that has allowed us to create and bring amazing entertainment to our members all over the world while also delivering outstanding returns to our investors," said Reed Hastings, Netflix Chief Executive Officer. "I look forward to working with him during the transition as we identify a new CFO who will help us continue to pursue our ambitious goals."

Netflix CFO David Wells to step down

Netflix Chief Financial Officer David Wells is stepping down.

Wells, who has been CFO since 2010, will stay on the job until he can help choose a successor, the company announced Monday.

Netflix's stock was down slightly in early trading.

Wells said he intends to focus on philanthropy.

Here's the full announcement from Netflix:

Netflix Inc. announced today that Chief Financial Officer David Wells plans to step down after helping the company choose his successor. The search will include both internal and external candidates.

Wells, who joined Netflix in 2004 and has served as CFO since 2010, intends to stay until his successor takes the role to ensure a smooth transition.

"It's been 14 wonderful years at Netflix, and I'm very proud of everything we've accomplished," Wells said. "After discussing my desire to make a change with Reed, we agreed that with Netflix's strong financial position and exciting growth plans, this is the right time for us to help identify the next financial leader for the company. Personally, I intend my next chapter to focus more on philanthropy and I like big challenges but I'm not sure yet what that looks like."

"David has been a valuable partner to Netflix and to me. He skillfully managed our finances during a phase of dramatic growth that has allowed us to create and bring amazing entertainment to our members all over the world while also delivering outstanding returns to our investors," said Reed Hastings, Netflix Chief Executive Officer. "I look forward to working with him during the transition as we identify a new CFO who will help us continue to pursue our ambitious goals."

Netflix CEO David Wells plans to step down after 14 years with the streaming giant, the company announced Monday - he'll exit after helping the company choose a successor.

Why it matters: Wells is the second C-suite executive to exit Netflix this summer. In May, Chief Communications Officer Jonathan Friedland exited after making insensitive remarks.

The exit seems amicable. Wells says he wants to work on philanthropy projects and that the company's finances are in a healthy place for him to move on. CEO Reed Hastings says, "I look forward to working with him during the transition as we identify a new CFO who will help us continue to pursue our ambitious goals."
