Adams administration eyes more than 3,000 NYC sites to house migrants - but won't say if Central Park is included
Mayor Adams' administration is looking at over 3,000 sites to place asylum seekers - and would not say whether the possible locations include Central Park - in the wake of the mayor's comments that the migrant crisis is "coming to a neighborhood near you."
There are nearly 108,000 people at 194 shelters across the Big Apple - pushing city officials to get creative when looking for places to erect new migrant housing.
Deputy Mayor Anne Williams-Isom skirted around whether migrant tents would be set up in Central Park, telling reporters on Wednesday that while there is a "constantly refreshing" list of possible sites, the situation is "at a breaking point."
"Over 3,000 sites have been reviewed throughout the city to place people," she said, without giving specifics on what sites they were looking at.
While officials have issued 800 "60-day notices," to adult migrants - no migrants have reached the 60-day cap and been forced to reapply for shelter placement.
"We just started on July 26...last Monday. What we're seeing is the ongoing struggle of a system that is bustling with 500 people a day - and so that is a struggle that we're having right now," Williams-Isom said.

NYC mayor announces new restrictions for migrants, as shelters reach "full capacity"
Migrants will have 60 days to find permanent housing after entering New York City's shelters under Mayor Eric Adams' plan.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said that over 90,000 migrants have come to the city since April, 2022, during a meeting on Wednesday.
Adams also announced that migrants living in the city's shelters will have 60 days to find permanent housing or risk losing their shelter.
"We have reached full capacity...we have no more room in the city." Adams said.
The city will try to deter migrants at the border by distributing flyers saying, "There is no guarantee we will be able to provide shelter and services to new arrivals," "Housing in NYC is very expensive," and, "Please consider another city as you make your decision about where to settle in the U.S."
The rate of migrants entering New York City shelters has remained high. Over 2,000 migrants entered the city's shelters last week, according to New York City Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Anne Williams-Isom.
Adams criticized the practice of states shipping migrants to New York and other large cities.
"This has now become a playbook that many of our bordering states are carrying out. Using a funnel system, funneling asylum seekers and migrants to New York City...This cannot continue, it's not sustainable and we're not going to pretend as though it is sustainable."

The ongoing migrant crisis could leave New York City bankrupt, Mayor Eric Adams warned Wednesday - while repeatedly refusing to blame President Biden's lax border policies.
Adams - who's asked the federal government for $1 billion to pay for migrant housing and services - said there were "real dollar amounts" tied to the state of emergency he declared in October.
"This is an expensive endeavor that we are in and we have to find ways of carrying out this task without bankrupting the city," he said.
During an unrelated news conference in Brooklyn, Adams also said Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Anne Williams-Isom and other officials were "meeting continuously to pivot, shift and figure out how to solve this crisis that was that was dropped on us."
But when two reporters invoked Biden in their questions, Hizzoner wouldn't even utter the name of his 80-year-old fellow Democrat.
"Listen, we have to solve the migrant, immigrant issue, so it's easy to point to whoever's in the White House at the time. Those are Band-Aids. We have a problem at our borders," he said in response to a question from The Post.

"And so when I say the federal government, I'm talking about Congress and the executive branch resolving this issue of our migrants. And we're not going to try to simplify this."
Adams' remarks came a day after revealing that he'd learned Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis was "going to be sending migrants to places like New York City and Chicago."
Adams called that move "unfair to local governments," adding, "There is no more room at the inn."
Adams said it's "easy to point to whoever's in the White House at the time" but refused to blame Biden for the migrant crisis.
Polis later told Politico that he actually began relocating migrants from his state weeks ago, before a recent storm created a backlog in Denver.
On Wednesday, Adams echoed a statement Tuesday from Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who called Polis' actions "inhumane."
Adams' attack came after he said he spoke Tuesday with Lightfoot, who told him, "Eric, you know we have been a little too patient but, you know, we can't do anything to embarrass our families. But it's about time we start to do that."
Adams said there are "real dollar amounts" tied to the state of emergency he declared over the migrant crisis.

A spokesperson for Polis didn't immediately return a request for comment.
As of Sunday, about 35,700 migrants have flooded into New York City since the spring and more than 24,000 were being housed in 68 emergency shelters and processing centers, according to the latest official statistics.

"NYC Mayor-elect Eric Adams unveiled a team of deputy mayors on Monday, appointing five women to some of the city's most important behind-the-scenes roles. Adams' team said two of the new deputy mayors were the first of Asian descent in the city's history. Topping the list as first deputy mayor is Lorraine Grillo, who has been Mayor Bill de Blasio's COVID "recovery czar," as well as the longtime CEO of the School Construction Authority and commissioner of the Department of Design and Construction. Grillo has worked for the city for more than two decades, and Adams will be the third straight mayor to appoint her to a senior role. In addition to Grillo, Adams named Anne Williams-Isom as deputy mayor for Health and Human Services; Meera Joshi as deputy mayor for Operations; Maria Torres-Springer as deputy mayor for Economic and Workforce Development; and Sheena Wright as deputy mayor for Strategic Initiatives."
