Feds investigating deadly California explosion as a crime

A deadly explosion at an office building in Southern California Tuesday is being investigated as a crime and is believed to have been triggered by a package, though no physical proof has been found on scene, federal officials said during a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

"At this time we have ruled out the potential of this to be an accident due to the condition of the victim," an official with the Orange County Sheriff's Department told reporters. "Evidence collected and what we believe are involved in the explosion are not consistent with items that would be used at a day spa."

"Investigators are still working to confirm whether or not this was an intentional act. We are, however, investigating this as a crime," the official added.

One person was killed and three others wounded as the result of an explosion inside a two-story building in Aliso Viejo, about an hour's drive south from Los Angeles. Ildiko Krajnyak was identified as the woman killed in the blast, and she owned a day spa on the first floor of the building.

A portion of the building's walls were blown off, and witnesses said it felt like an earthquake hit during the blast.

First responders and federal officials still have not found an explosive device they believe would have triggered the explosion.

Officials served three search warrants Wednesday, including to a business in the affected building; one in long beach, Calif.; and another in Trabuco Canyon, Calif. No arrests have been made.

Federal officials were asked if there are other targets and said they won't "rule out anything."

The FBI, ATF, and Orange County Sheriff's Department's bomb technicians remain on scene investigating the incident.

The explosion comes two months after the Austin, Texas, bombings. From March 2-20, five package bombs exploded at different places throughout the city, killing two and injuring five.

The suspect committed suicide during a police encounter March 21.

I followed the actual path for that same jetBlue flight on May 2 and it does seem to fit. The lower flight seems to show the flats and the buildings on Nortech Parkway. Then the plane turns more to the south and the higher altitude photo shows the characteristic ridge to the west that you always see when heading south in the valley.

This is almost certainly the right flight. And long beach is where cargo is shipped Internationally.

I expect these photos were messages to somebody else, saying, we know what you are doing and we are watching YOU!

I know that Jet Blue has a hub in long beach, which is probably where the iPhones would have come in from (Port of L.A. or Port of long beach). I think both of the plane images are taken on the descent to SJC, but from two different cameras (one on either side). The surrounding area is just different in SoCal…plus, you can see a little bit of marsh on the bottom of both pictures.

Pic related is the one I think it is–matches the lighting. First shot would be taken north and east of the airport, looking west, and second pic would be north and west of the airport, looking east. The first shot is brighter–sun would be to the South somewhat most likely. Might also help explain why it's zoomed-in more: to keep the sun out of the image.

long beach DESK - The long beach Naval Station was tentatively placed on the Military Base Closure-List by president George Bush in 1991. President Bill Clinton, closed the naval base last in 1993. That resulted in the loss to long beach, California of 17,500 military and civilian jobs. The economic impact of the of loss was $52.5 million and drove the California economy into the tank. It has never recovered.
Between 1995-1996, during the heat of the Clinton-Gore Campaign fund raising activity, the Clinton administration actively intervened to make sure a Communist Chinese cargo container shipping interest got a too-good deal on a long beach, California, shipping terminal.
The Secretary of the Navy has formally turned the base over to the City of long beach. But, the Port of long beach has signed a letter of intent to lease the property to the China Ocean Shipping Co., a steamship line run by the Communist Chinese government.
The Navy base property is about to be leased to a Communist China-owned shipping company under an agreement that was only made possible by the intervention of the White House.
 Forced by a court order, Port of long beach officials have now set March 12, 1997 for a new public hearing on plans to bulldoze the Naval Station and lease the property to the Comunist Chinese shipping company.
After a hearing before the court, a judge ruled last week that the deal had been rushed and proper procedures had not been in place.
Clinton was so eager to push the deal through that he met twice with long beach officials and once at a White House meeting in 1995 that included his then-chief of staff and the Pentagon's No. 2 official and others.
The deal finally approved by the Secretary of the Navy turns over control of the long beach Naval Station, with a value of at least $65 million, free of charge to the City of long beach. The city has agreed to lease it to the China Ocean Shipping Co. of the People's Republic of China.
The Chinese deal apparently went forward without a national security review by wither the CIA or National Security Council. The White House apparently avoided normal and routine government channels in pushing the deal through in 1995. '… there seemed to be no reason to check with the National Security Council on the decision …' White House spokesman Lanny Davis said.
However, the China Ocean Shipping Co. of the People's Republic of China has been actively involved in several recent controversies in addition to a Russian AK-47 gun-smuggling episode on the streets of Oakland, California. In another shocking incident in December, one of the company's ships plowed into a crowded boardwalk in New Orleans, injuring 116 people.
Then, in 1992, the shipping company was fined $400,000 in a violation of U.S. shipping law in connection with is practices involving bribery of government officials in order to avoid paying U.S. tariffs on its imports at United States ports of entry.
There is still more. Six of the company's ships were detained by the Navy and Coast Guard for violating international safety regulations just in the last year. The Coast Guard said, that is has placed the China Ocean Shipping Co. of the People's Republic of China on a target list of shippers to monitor and search.
Last summer China admitted that the China Ocean Shipping Co. was shipping 640 tons of raw waste from the United States to China when it suddenly decided to dump it into the open sea.
In 1993 U.S. Navy shadowed a China Ocean Shipping Co. ship passing in the Persian Gulf after U.S. intelligence warned it was suspected of carrying chemical weapons materials.
CIA director Robert Gates has said ' … any time you turn over an American port facility to a foreign-owned company, especially one with significant [Communist Chinese] government connection, then at least it ought to be vetted through national security agencies.'
A Navy Department career official said that no intelligence review was sought because the China Ocean Shipping Company's was not considered a security threat, by the Clinton White House.
The Chinese will lease the long beach Naval Station base for a 10 year term at a fee of $14.5 million per year. The Chinese will have the option to expand the perimeter of the operation onto another 150 acres of old Navy shipyards that will be developed at the City of long beach taxpayer's expense.
Officials at the Chinese shipping interest's headquarters in New Jersey and in Beijing refused to comment or respond to questions about president Clinton's involvement.

Yesterday, I published an article in which I expressed concern that a possible EMP attack, of an unspecified scope and severity, is being prepared on US soil. Fox News host Sean Hannity had a follower walk into his long Island, New York, home - and he wasn't welcomed.

Former dentist Jan Gilbert, 72, of long beach, New York, was charged with trespassing after entering the conservative commentator's house on the afternoon of Feb. 17, according to reports on Wednesday.

Gilbert wrangled his way into Hannity's Centre Island mansion by telling an unnamed person outside the home that he was writing a book about the Fox News personality, and needed to give him some papers, according to court documents cited by The Associated Press. Gilbert then followed that person into the house, AP reported.

Hannity's wife, Jill, told police that she spotted Gilbert inside without permission and that she did not know him. She said Gilbert then left the house and sat in his car on the driveway, where police found him, Newsday reported.

Gilbert was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass.

He told Newsday "someone misheard, fabricated or misunderstood" the encounter. "There is a real reason, a valid reason, a superior reason and a fully confirmed reason, but I'm not going to be able to talk about it," he said.

According to a real estate listing site, Billy Joel and Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch have lived in the posh area.

Hannity did not immediately respond to a HuffPost request for comment.

In The Culture of Critique, Kevin MacDonald advances a carefully researched but extremely controversial thesis: that certain 20th century intellectual movements - largely established and led by Jews - have changed European societies in fundamental ways and destroyed the confidence of Western man. He claims that these movements were designed, consciously or unconsciously, to advance Jewish interests even though they were presented to non-Jews as universalistic and even utopian. He concludes that the increasing dominance of these ideas has had profound political and social consequences that benefited Jews but caused great harm to gentile societies. This analysis, which he makes with considerable force, is an unusual indictment of a people generally thought to be more sinned against than sinning.

The Culture of Critique is the final title in Prof. MacDonald's massive, three-volume study of Jews and their role in history. The two previous volumes are A People That Shall Dwell Alone and Separation and its Discontents, published by Praeger in 1994 and 1998. The series is written from a sociobiological perspective that views Judaism as a unique survival strategy that helps Jews compete with other ethnic groups. Prof. MacDonald, who is a psychologist at the University of California at long beach, explains this perspective in the first volume, which describes Jews as having a very powerful sense of uniqueness that has kept them socially and genetically separate from other peoples. The second volume traces the history of Jewish-gentile relations, and finds the causes of anti-Semitism primarily in the almost invariable commercial and intellectual dominance of gentile societies by Jews and in their refusal to assimilate. The Culture of Critique brings his analysis into the present century, with an account of the Jewish role in the radical critique of traditional culture.

The intellectual movements Prof. MacDonald discusses in this volume are Marxism, Freudian psychoanalysis, the Frankfurt school of sociology, and Boasian anthropology. Perhaps most relevant from a racial perspective, he also traces the role of Jews in promoting multi-culturalism and Third World immigration. Throughout his analysis Prof. MacDonald reiterates his view that Jews have promoted these movements as Jews and in the interests of Jews, though they have often tried to give the impression that they had no distinctive interests of their own. Therefore Prof. MacDonald's most profound charge against Jews is not ethnocentrism but dishonesty - that while claiming to be working for the good of mankind they have often worked for their own good and to the detriment of others. While attempting to promote the brotherhood of man by dissolving the ethnic identification of gentiles, Jews have maintained precisely the kind of intense group solidarity they decry as immoral in others.

Tesla chief Elon Musk caught a lot of flak last year for his public comments about mass transit, which were widely interpreted as a veiled dig from a billionaire CEO at people who can't afford cars.

But Musk appears to have adjusted his car-first mindset when it comes the Boring Company, trading in his vision of a car-first operation with that of a tunnel that prioritizes pedestrian & cyclist traffic, then bus, then car traffic. Musk released an animated video Friday on his Twitter account that shows this scenario. A mini-bus with "LAX Terminal" lighting up its destination display descends from the street to the tunnel and hits 150 mph.

The shift for Musk is an incredibly positive signal - a massive underground tunnel network should prioritize the needs of all people, not just those with cars - and shows an evolution in his thinking from when he first revealed the Boring Company video more than 300 days ago at the TED conference in Vancouver. That video featured a red Tesla Model 3 heading into the tunnel.
"It's a matter of courtesy & fairness."

"Adjusting The Boring Company plan: all tunnels & Hyperloop will prioritize pedestrians & cyclists over cars," Musk announced Friday. "Will still transport cars, but only after all personalized mass transit needs are met. It's a matter of courtesy & fairness. If someone can't afford a car, they should go first. [Boring Company] urban loop system would have thousands of small stations the size of a single parking space that take you very close to your destination & blend seamlessly into the fabric of a city, rather than a small number of big stations like a subway."
Below are Musk's comments from December that show how he feels about current mass transit:

"I think public transport is painful. It sucks. Why do you want to get on something with a lot of other people, that doesn't leave where you want it to leave, doesn't start where you want it to start, doesn't end where you want it to end? And it doesn't go all the time," he said during a Tesla event at the Neural Information Processing Systems Conference in long beach, California, as Wired reported. "It's a pain in the ass. That's why everyone doesn't like it. And there's like a bunch of random strangers, one of who might be a serial killer, OK, great. And so that's why people like individualized transport, that goes where you want, when you want."

After Wired published the article, he saw waves of criticism that generally fell under the theme of "Elon doesn't care about poor people." Musk swiftly replied like this: "It's just a really bad and fundamentally misleading article that doesn't actually represent my point of view at all."

Musk's master plan for the Boring Company is to build a 3D network of underground tunnels through which hyperloop tubes, pedestrians, and vehicles like buses and cars can travel. He wants to do it ten times cheaper and faster that current tunnel-boring projects.

Fox News host Sean Hannity had a follower walk into his long Island, New York, home - and he wasn't welcomed.

Former dentist Jan Gilbert, 72, of long beach, New York, was charged with trespassing after entering the conservative commentator's house on the afternoon of Feb. 17, according to reports on Wednesday.

Gilbert wrangled his way into Hannity's Centre Island mansion by telling an unnamed person outside the home that he was writing a book about the Fox News personality, and needed to give him some papers, according to court documents cited by The Associated Press. Gilbert then followed that person into the house, AP reported.

Hannity's wife, Jill, told police that she spotted Gilbert inside without permission and that she did not know him. She said Gilbert then left the house and sat in his car on the driveway, where police found him, Newsday reported.

Gilbert was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass.

He told Newsday "someone misheard, fabricated or misunderstood" the encounter. "There is a real reason, a valid reason, a superior reason and a fully confirmed reason, but I'm not going to be able to talk about it," he said.

The real target of the crew on board this giant ship was a lost Soviet submarine. Six years earlier, the K-129 had sunk 1,500 miles north-west of Hawaii while carrying ballistic nuclear missiles.

The Russians failed to find their sub despite a massive search, but an American network of underwater listening posts had detected the noise of an explosion that eventually led US teams to the wreck.

It was lying three miles down, deeper than any previous salvage operation. The weapons and top-secret code books were surely beyond reach.

But in the struggle for military advantage, the sub represented the crown jewels - a chance to explore Moscow's nuclear missiles and to break into its naval communications.

So the CIA hatched an audacious plan, Project Azorian, to retrieve the submarine. That would have been hard enough. But there was another challenge as well - it had to be done without the Russians knowing.

The spies needed to create a smokescreen so they pretended to be exploring the possibility of deep sea mining.

A PR campaign conveyed a determined effort to find manganese nodules. These potato-sized rocks lie scattered in the abyss, the great plains of the deep ocean.

There had to be a frontman - someone rich and eccentric enough to be plausible. The reclusive billionaire inventor Howard Hughes was perfect for the role.

Two women died digging for clams along the Washington coast Friday in separate incidents that occurred after they were caught in rough surf, officials said.

The Pacific County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook the women were reported missing around 9 p.m., roughly four minutes apart, from two beaches in Pacific County, located in the southwest part of the state.

"These incidents serve as a tragic reminder that one must always be vigilant of the powerful surf and waves that are often present on our ocean beaches," Sheriff Scott Johnson said. "Always stay close to other clammers, bring a flashlight or lantern, a waterproof cell phone, and never turn your back on the surf as 'sneaker waves' can appear at any time."

The first 911 call came in about 8:57 p.m. reporting a 70-year-old woman was lost in the surf while digging clams on the Oysterville beach north of Ocean Park on the long beach Peninsula, the sheriff's office said. A search was hampered "due to rough surf and inclement weather conditions," but officials from the Coast Guard were eventually able to send a team to the scene.

Her body was found around 5 p.m. Saturday in the town of Westport in neighboring Grays Harbor County.

Officials said in the second case, a 61-year-old woman from Toledo was reported missing at 9:01 p.m. in the surf near the mouth of the Willapa Bay. The woman had been digging for clams with her husband when they became separated. Rescue personnel from several agencies were immediately dispatched to the scene and began scouring the area. Her body was found around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday in Pacific County, the sheriff's office said.
