Airplane pilots record multiple UFOs 'dancing' in the sky: 'It wasn't on our radar'

Pilots witnessed and filmed in detail several UFOs maneuvering across the night sky in ways impossible for a manmade plane.
Captain Ruud Van Pangemanan, who is also a vlogger, was flying a Boeing 747 from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Abuja, Nigeria at 5 a.m. recently when the stunning act crossed his view and that of his colleagues in the cockpit.
He described the extremely vivid, star-like object - there was also a sudden streak seen across the sky far below it - as "dancing."

The free-moving unidentified aerial pneumonia plunges quickly before shooting back to around its original altitude.
"Is it falling down?" Van Pangemanan says while witnessing the aerial phenomena in motion on the right wing side of his aircraft.
It also aggressively broke off in other directions at random and with no indication of directional change, eerily similar to a UFO depicted in the hit show "The X Files."

"The light of the UFO in front of us moves freely. Sometimes forward, sometimes backward, sometimes left, right, or vice versa," the pilot added.
The object's bright light was also seen flickering at times and fully disappeared during moments as well. A Reddit user reuploaded the footage with visual enhancements to make the object easier to spot.
Later on in the clip, multiple similar-looking bright objects are observed in the sky as the pilots are overheard describing them as UFOs.

Footage taken by Van Pangemanan shows that at least three of the shining dots - Van Pangemanan said he saw as many as four - aligned in a way similar to the Phoenix Lights, a widely viewed 1997 phenomenon over Arizona that is still without explanation.
The pilot also ruled out any Earthly possibilities.

"We thought the light was a plane but it wasn't on our radar," he said. "Then we thought maybe it was a star but the stars twinkled quickly and the stars didn't move."
Van Pangemanan dismissed the potential it could be a satellite, especially considering how many of Elon Musk's Starlink launches are typically mistaken for UFOs.
"It is impossible for a satellite to move like that," he said.

Adding to the hysteria, several people commented on the pilot's YouTube vlog and said they had seen similar.
"I am Brazilian. Yesterday 08/10/24 I saw an object EXACTLY like this! It was hovering and came in my home direction," one person wrote.
"My wife and I sit in our garden here in the UK. Every single night, if we have a clear sky, you will see lights travel across the sky that will suddenly grow bright, exactly what you see in this video," added another.

Nautilus Aviation say pilot of helicopter that flew into Cairns hotel was member of its ground crew

The pilot killed when a helicopter crashed into a Cairns hotel roof has been identified as 23-year-old Blake Wilson of New Zealand, who had been working as a ground crew employee with the company for four months.

Nautilus Aviation CEO Aaron Finn confirmed late Tuesday afternoon that a member of the company's ground staff "gained unauthorised access to [the] helicopter hangar and misappropriated one of [the] helicopters".

He said the employee held a New Zealand pilot's licence but had never flown in Australia. Mr Finn said there was a gathering of company employees on Sunday night,including off-duty-pilots, celebrating a promotion of the man who flew the helicopter.(He was drunk?)

"This was a privately organised send-off for the individual involved in Monday morning's incident, who was recently promoted to a ground crew position at another one of our bases," Mr Finn said. "This was not a work event and had been coordinated by friends."

Mr Finn said the company had undergone interviews with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) and Queensland Police Service. Recording devices from the helicopter have been sent for analysis as the investigation shifts to the pilot.

ATSB chief Angus Mitchell confirmed earlier on Tuesday, the helicopter's evidence, including technical instruments, had been sent to Canberra to be examined. "We'll start analysing that to get a better idea of the flight plan, and indeed, oncewe get that confirmation of who was the occupant at the time and who was the pilot at the time," Mr Mitchell said. "Yesterday was very much focused on accessing the site itself." (Was there another person in there with the pilot)

Nearly 400 people were evacuated from the Double Tree Hilton after the helicopter hit the hotel shortly before 2am on Monday. Investigators believe the helicopter was taken from the Cairns Airport before flying into the no-fly zone over the CBD. The probe will also involve the Department of Home Affairs, which oversees airport security.

"There are other aspects of this particular investigation that probably fall a little bit outside transport safety," Mr Mitchell said."This is going to be an interesting one, a little bit different to what we would normally investigate."

Witnesses reported seeing the helicopter flying at high speed and low to the ground along the foreshore before crashing into the building.

Cairns Airport chief executive Richard Barker said airport security had not been compromised. "Cairns Airport operates under an approved multi-layered transport security program," Mr Barker said. "We have conducted a review this morning and initial findings show there has been no compromise of the airport security program or processes."

Doug Drury, head of aviation at CQUniversity, said aviation companies typically used keypads with codes for security. "I've used them in airports all over the world but it's a common code and if you've ever worked at this location, then you would know where to go and how to get in," he said.

"They do change the codes and I imagine every facility at Cairns Airport now has a new code in their door and in their gate locks." Professor Drury said Cairns Airport security was "right up there with everybody else's" but it was "a given that the security presence will increase". "They'll go through footage from all the security cameras to see how this person got in and how they were able to start the aircraft," he said.

The Australian Federal Police said it was assisting the Queensland Police Service with inquiries related to the events at the airport and its surrounds. It did not confirm whether an aviation security identification card (ASIC) was used to access the airside area.

Scientists hail scientific legacy of comet-chasing Rosetta probe on 10th anniversary

A decade ago, scientists at the European Space Agency (ESA) had just wrapped up the yearslong process of building a comet-chasing spacecraft named after the Rosetta Stone, the key to deciphering ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.
The scientists hoped the Rosetta mission would similarly reveal new clues about how our pocket of the universe assembled itself roughly 4.5 billion years ago.
To do so, the mission's goal was to study an otherwise-unremarkable comet called Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, a 2.5-mile-wide (4 kilometers) frozen rock left over from the formation of the solar system.
Following a decade-long journey, Rosetta arrived at its target in August 2014.

Just a few hours after the spacecraft arrived, scientists celebrated the first close-up photos of the comet radioed home by Rosetta and its lander, Philae. Mark McCaughrean, a senior scientific adviser at ESA, called those first snapshots "a scientific Disneyland."
Exploring that cosmic wonder led to so many notable Rosetta discoveries that scientists find it difficult to pick the best one.
From revealing the comet's rubber-ducky shape and unique auroras up close to discovering Earth-like gases streaming from the comet, Rosetta's data contained precious information about how the cosmic fossil - and the solar system - took shape billions of years ago, which thrilled scientists and fueled many careers.

"Rosetta is one of the most ambitious and challenging missions, also from a human perspective," Claire Vallat, who was involved in planning the mission, said in a statement.
"It was a long project involving people spread all over the world, sometimes belonging to different generations, all learning to work together towards a common scientific goal."
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Rosetta's arrival at Comet 67P - the first comet that a spacecraft orbited and landed on - scientists who were involved with the mission recalled what it was like to see those first images arrive, notable scientific findings and other behind-the-scenes looks at the mission.

A "rubber duck" rock
Shortly before Rosetta arrived at Comet 67P, its onboard cameras saw the distant dot it was hurtling toward transform into a 2.5-mile-wide rock, which the mission team quickly parsed into a short video.
"It suddenly became very real," Nick Thomas, who was on the mission's camera team, said in an ESA recent statement.
Those first detailed images showed Comet 67P to be nothing like the potato-shaped rock the scientists had long expected.
Instead, the comet was a two-lobed "rubber ducky" - the result of two full-fledged comets colliding at low speeds in an infant solar system - with "goose bump" rocks that were the comet's building blocks.

"That was staggering," Thomas said. "It told us we were there and we were going to find something special."
The images are special to many scientists involved with the mission, but they are especially memorable for two who were on vacation when the close-ups radioed in.
"I had no internet access," recalled Geraint Jones, who is now a project scientist for the BepiColombo mission to Mercury. "So I actually saw the shape of the comet for the first time on a newspaper stand in Germany!"
"This was a very exciting moment, since the nucleus shape did not look at all like how we envisaged it until then," added Vallat, who also was on vacation and remembers frantically checking her phone for any new images Rosetta might have sent home.

Comet 67P was headed toward the inner solar system during the Rosetta mission. So the probe was tasked with rendezvousing with the comet when it was still in the frigid pockets of our solar system and with watching how the icy rock transformed as regions cast in darkness for years became flooded with sunlight.
"We see comets in the sky and know they're our nearest neighbors," Thomas said.
"We're naturally nosy; we want to meet our neighbors and have a look at what they're doing."

Search the internet for an image of the Milky Way and you'll find dozens of pictures showcasing our home galaxy in its full spiraling glory.
But a former NASA space analyst has shared the 'truth' about the photographs, revealing they're not real.
Alexandra Doten explained that humans have only seen illustrations of what scientists believe the Milky Way looks like.

That's because snapping a photo of our galaxy in its entirety would mean sending a spacecraft beyond its edge - which might never even be possible, Doten said.
'There isn't a single full photo of the Milky Way, which is the galaxy we live in,' former NASA space analyst and science content creator Alexandra Doten revealed in a recent TikTok.
'Every full image you see of the Milky Way is an illustration. We cannot see the Milky Way like this, and I don't think humans ever will,' Doten said.

Doten is a science content creator and former NASA space analyst, whose job involved providing technical and policy support to the Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) branch at NASA Headquarters.
This year, she made Forbes' 30 Under 30 list of social media influencers for her educational astronomy TikToks.
The Milky Way is a disk-shaped spiral galaxy that's a whopping 100,000 light-years wide - the equivalent of 600,000 trillion miles - and 1,000 light years thick.

Our planet sits in a solar system roughly halfway between the galaxy's center and its outer rim.
To photograph our home galaxy in its entirety, 'a spacecraft would have to travel either up or down from the disk of the Milky way - and travel so incredibly far,' Doten said.
That spacecraft would have to make it far beyond our galaxy's edge. That's distance of at least 500 light-years.

'But the farthest a spacecraft has ever traveled isn't even to the next closest star, Doten said.
The Voyager 1 spacecraft currently holds the record for the farthest distance ever traveled by a spacecraft.
But that distance is only 0.002 light-years away from Earth.
So it's highly unlikely that a spacecraft will be able to travel outside of our galaxy within your lifetime.

But astronomers can still create accurate illustrations of what the Milky Way galaxy should look like based on things we can see from Earth, Doten explained.
The first clue that our galaxy was shaped like a spiral disk came from simply looking up.
Astronomers surmised that the Milky Way is shaped like a flat disk from the bright band of stars that stretches across the sky - which is also where our galaxy gets its name.

You've probably seen it if you've ever looked up at the sky on a very dark, clear night.
The fact that we can see this band from inside the Milky Way tells us that our galaxy is basically flat. It's also strong evidence that we live in a spiral galaxy.
If we lived in an elliptical galaxy - which is shaped like an oval - we would see stars spread out all over the sky - not concentrated in a single band.

The shape of the Milky Way has also been confirmed through images taken by powerful telescopes, such as Hubble, Chandra, Spitzer and James Webb.
These telescopes capture images of our galaxy in many different wavelengths of light, and have allowed astronomers to peer into the very center of the Milky Way.
'We even have a photo of the black hole at the center of the Milky Way,' Doten said.

Astronomers can also track the motions of stars as they orbit this center and use our understanding of gravity to model what the core must look like.
This technique also revealed that we live in a 'barred' spiral galaxy, which means that it has a central bar of stars, gas and dust that connects the spiral arms to the nucleus - or centerpoint.
And we've learned a lot from imaging other galaxies too.

Telescope images of spiral galaxies like Andromeda, our nearest spiral neighbor, help illustrators approximate what the Milky Way probably looks like.
For example, these photos tell us that most disk galaxies host spiral arms and a dense central bulge, so it's safe to assume that ours probably does too.
Putting all these observations together is what allows us to create highly accurate depictions of our galaxy - even though humans have never seen it in its entirety.

'It's basically like sitting in a seat of a Ferris wheel and looking in and trying to draw the rest of the Ferris wheel,' Doten said.
'In general, you're gonna get it pretty right.'

Giant Jet from the International Space Station

What's that on the horizon? When circling the Earth on the International Space Station early last month, astronaut Matthew Dominick saw an unusual type of lightning just beyond the Earth's edge: a gigantic jet. The powerful jet appears on the left of the featured image in red and blue. Giant jet lightning has only been known about for the past 23 years. The atmospheric jets are associated with thunderstorms and extend upwards towards Earth's ionosphere. The lower part of the frame shows the Earth at night, with Earth's thin atmosphere tinted green from airglow. City lights are visible, sometimes resolved, but usually creating diffuse white glows in intervening clouds. The top of the frame reveals distant stars in the dark night sky. The nature of gigantic jets and their possible association with other types of Transient Luminous Events (TLEs) such as blue jets and red sprites remains an active topic of research.

Nuclear plant 'seriously damaged' in Ukrainian attack - Moscow
Two drone strikes started a fire that devastated a cooling tower at Russia's Zaporozhye power plant, Rosatom has said

A Ukrainian drone strike on Russia's Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (NPP) started a fire at the facility and caused serious damage to one of its cooling towers, nuclear power agency Rosatom has said. Its CEO Aleksey Likhachyov also noted that the attack represented "a completely new level of targeted aggression aimed at the infrastructure of nuclear facilities."

In a statement on Monday shared by Russian media, Rosatom said one of the cooling towers at the Zaporozhye NPP had been hit by two Ukrainian attack drones on Sunday evening. The strikes resulted in a fire that burned internal structures, it added.

While the fire was mostly extinguished by first responders within a couple of hours, "the internal structures of the cooling tower suffered serious damage. The risk of the structure collapsing will be assessed by specialists as soon as possible, Rosatom stated.

The agency accused Ukraine of "nuclear terrorism," arguing that the strike had targeted crucial cooling equipment, adding that Zaporozhye NPP, the largest facility of its kind in Europe, as well as the city of Energodar have frequently been attacked by Kiev in the past.

Commenting on the incident, Ukraine'sVladimir Zelensky claimed that "Russian occupiers started a fire" at the facility, without mentioning any drone strikes=. He also shared footage showing a large blaze in the lower levels of the tower, with plumes of smoke rising hundreds of meters into the sky. (Stupid Z, why would Russia sabotage the plant they saved from Ukraine's destruction? Anons remember that was Russia's first target for days, we had all kinds of theories why the took it. We considered there were top secret documents held there, etc)

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which has a mission at Zaporozhye NPP, said that its experts heard "multiple explosions" at the facility, without attributing responsibility to either Russia or Ukraine. The watchdog stated that "no impact has been reported for nuclear safety."

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi also condemned what he called "reckless attacks" that "endanger nuclear safety at the plant and increase the risk of a nuclear accident."

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova blasted the IAEA for its apparent inaction. "Where is Rafael Grossi and the rest of the IAEA? Is there at least an imitation of the work of this UN body in this critical area?" she asked, adding that the "terrorists in Kiev, under the leadership of the collective West, destroyed their country... andnow they have begun the nuclear terror of the continent."

Zaporozhye NPP was seized by Russian forces in 2022, several days after the start of the conflict. While Zaporozhye Region joined Russia in a public referendum in the autumn of 2022, the facility itself is located not far from the front line. Against this backdrop, Ukraine and Russia have often traded accusations over who was behind attacks on the facility.

(This plant is a major source of energy for European countries, Ukraine has attacked it over and over to blame Russia for more aggression from NATO and EU, and Zelensky gets more support from them.)

On #ThisDayInHistory in 2018, 28 year-old Richard Russell, later known as 'sky King,' borrowed an airplane from Seattle-Tacoma Airport and took it for a joyride for over an hour before crashing into a remote Island.

Russell had started working as a ground crew member to visit his family in Alaska more often. Despite having no flying experience other than video games, he quickly became fascinated with aviation. On the evening of August 10th, he managed to access an aircraft and take off smoothly before other employees realized something was wrong.

During his joyride, Russell flew over Mount Rainier and the Olympics Mountain, executed a perfect barrel roll, and asked for GPS coordinates of an orca and calf recently spotted.

Air traffic controllers, two F-15 fighters, and a civilian pilot tried to convince Russell to land the plane, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Eventually, the plane ran out of fuel and Russell directed it into Ketron Island. His death was ruled a suicide, potentially linked to brain injuries from previous concussions.

Russell's family noted that "he was a faithful husband, a loving man, and a good friend... He was right in saying that there are so many people who loved him." Rest in peace, sky King. ???

Boris Johnson has got plenty of time on his hands since being forced from Downing Street. Why not edit a newspaper?

The former British prime minister is being sounded out about serving as the global editor-in-chief of the Telegraph broadsheet, sky News reported Monday.

It'd mark a major return to journalism for a Brexiteer who cut his teeth as a deeply Eurosceptic Brussels correspondent for the same paper in the early 1990s. Johnson went on to edit the Spectator magazine, and still keeps a hand in with a weekly opinion column for the rival Daily Mail.

The Telegraph, a favorite read of Conservative supporters, is up for sale after the House of Lords effectively blocked a bid from the United Arab Emirates-backed RedBird IMI fund to buy up the paper.

But sky reported that Johnson has spoken to his former top finance minister, Nadhim Zahawi, about a post-government job at Britain's main right-wing broadsheet. Zahawi is reported to be in talks to organize finance for a ?600 million bid for the paper and the Spectator magazine.

Rocket Lab launched its 10th mission of the year on Sunday (Aug. 11), sending aloft an Earth-observing radar satellite for the California company Capella Space.
An Electron vehicle lifted off from Rocket Lab's New Zealand site on Sunday at 9:18 a.m. EDT (1318 GMT; 1:18 a.m. on Aug. 12 local New Zealand time).
The 59-foot-tall (18 meters) rocket did its job as planned. It deployed the spacecraft, called Acadia-3, about 57 minutes after liftoff into a circular orbit 382 miles (615 kilometers) above Earth.

Rocket Lab called Sunday's mission "A sky Full of SARS." That's a nod to Acadia-3, which is a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite.
"A sky Full of SARS" was Rocket Lab's fifth launch overall for San Francisco-based Capella Space, whose satellites return sharp imagery of Earth in all weather conditions, day or night - a key benefit of SAR tech.
"Capella Space provides easy access to frequent and timely information affecting dozens of industries worldwide, including defense and intelligence, supply chain, insurance, maritime and others," Rocket Lab wrote in the press kit for Sunday's mission, which you can find here.

"Its market-leading SAR satellites are matched with unparalleled data infrastructure to quickly deliver reliable global insights that sharpen our understanding of the changing world - improving decisions about commerce, conservation and security on Earth," Rocket Lab added.
"A sky Full of SARS" was the 10th launch of the year for Rocket Lab, and the company's 52nd orbital mission overall.
Rocket Lab aims to make Electron's first stage reusable; it has recovered boosters from the sea multiple times to date and has even reflown an engine on a previous mission.
But no recovery operations were performed on "A sky Full of SARS."

What's happening in the sky above Stonehenge? A meteor shower: specifically, the Perseid meteor shower. A few nights ago, after the sky darkened, many images of meteors from this year's Perseids were captured separately and merged into a single frame. Although the meteors all traveled on straight paths, these paths appear slightly curved by the wide-angle lens of the capturing camera. The meteor streaks can all be traced back to a single point on the sky called the radiant, here just off the top of the frame in the constellation of Perseus. The same camera took a deep image of the background sky that brought up the central band of our Milky Way galaxy running nearly vertical through the image center. The featured image was taken from Wiltshire, England, being careful to include, at the bottom, the famous astronomical monument of Stonehenge. NASA's NEOWISE asteroid spotter turned off for the final time

A mission that was supposed to last for less than a year went on for more than a decade

NASA's comeback kid, the NEOWISE spacecraft, was this week shut down for the final time as its transmitter was turned off ahead of a reentry into the Earth's atmosphere later this year.

The Near-Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (NEOWISE) is at the end of its second mission, after completing its first mission as the WISE (Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer) telescope in February 2011.

The spacecraft was launched in December 2009 with a six-month assignment to scan the entire infrared sky. It completed this in July 2010, and NASA extended the program until 2011.

However, all good things must come to an end, and with the depletion of the cryogenic coolant required to offset the heat generated by the spacecraft, WISE was put into hibernation. During its first mission, the telescope had mapped the night sky twice and demonstrated its prowess at spotting near-Earth objects.

Engineers and scientists were not done with WISE, though. In 2013, the telescope was brought out of hibernation under the Near-Earth Object Observations Program, which preceded NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office. The project was then called NEOWISE.

While the depletion of coolant meant that NEOWISE could no longer observe the faintest infrared objects in the universe, it could still be used to hunt for asteroids and other near-Earth objects.

Joseph Masiero, NEOWISE deputy principal investigator, said, "Without coolant, we had to find a way to cool the spacecraft down enough to measure infrared signals from asteroids.

"By commanding the telescope to stare into deep space for several months, we determined it would radiate only enough heat to reach lower temperatures that would still allow us to acquire high-quality data."

Scientists have known for a while that the end was coming and planned accordingly.

At the end of 2023, Masiero said, "The mission has planned for this day a long time. After several years of calm, the Sun is waking back up.

"We are at the mercy of solar activity, and with no means to keep us in orbit, NEOWISE is now slowly spiraling back to Earth."

NEOWISE's survey concluded on July 31, and on August 8, mission controllers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory sent the command to turn off the spacecraft's transmitters, effectively ending that portion of the operation.

Masiero said, "This is a bittersweet moment. It's sad to see this trailblazing mission come to an end, but we know there's more treasure hiding in the survey data.
