Colorado's Young Voter Turnout Strong for Presidential Primary.
We serve minors
Denver, March 9, 2020 - For the first time in state history, eligible 17-year-old Coloradans were able to vote in a primary election, and they enthusiastically responded, casting over 10,500 ballots in Tuesday's record-setting Presidential Primary.
"As the youngest Secretary of State in the country, it is important to me that young people's voices are heard in Colorado elections," said Secretary of State jena griswold. "That is one of the reasons I supported the 2019 Colorado Votes Act, which enables 17-year-olds who turn 18 by the General Election to cast a ballot in the primary. And we saw real results: eligible 17-year-olds cast over 10,500 ballots in Colorado's Presidential Primary!
"To see young people so engaged from their first opportunity to vote gives me great hope that our state will continue to be the gold standard in election turnout for decades to come."
Colorado is one of 18 states and the District of Columbia to allow 17-year-olds to vote in a primary as long as they are 18 by that year's General Election, and Colorado's young people turned out in force. So far, 10,634 out of 23,504 active registered 17-year-old voters cast ballots, for a turnout rate of 45.24%. Among those voters, 6,841 cast ballots for the Democratic Primary, 3,235 for the Republican Primary, and 558 are still in process.
Colorado's counties continue to count ballots, including late-arriving military and overseas ballots, through Wednesday, March 11. As of Monday, March 9, the state's overall turnout for the Presidential Primary among registered voters is 45.5%.
Eligible 17-year-old Colorado voters will have two more opportunities to exercise their right to vote in 2020 with the State Primary coming up on June 30 and the General Election on November 3.

Pete Buttigieg Gives Advice to a Prepubescent 9-Year-Old Boy About How To Come Out As Gay
by Cassandra Fairbanks February 23, 2020
Surely this prepubescent child did this on his own, without the prompting of his parents - we're expected to believe that, anyways.
"Thank you for being so brave," the child asked in a question, which was read by Colorado Secretary of State jena griswold. "Would you help me tell the world I'm gay, too? I want to be brave like you."
Buttigieg told the child, Zachary Ro, that it didn't seem like he needed advice on bravery, since he said it in a room full of people.
"I don't think you need a lot of advice from me on bravery, you seem pretty strong," Buttigieg said. "It took me a long time to figure out how to tell even my best friend that I was gay, let alone go out there and tell the world. And to see you willing to come to terms with you who you are in a room full of thousands of people you never met, that's really something."
"Let me tell you a couple things that might be useful. The first thing is that it won't always be easy, but that's okay because you know who you are and that's really important because when you know who you are you have a center of gravity that can hold you together when all kinds of chaos is happening around you," Buttigieg added.
The candidate continued on to say that "the second thing I want you to know is that you will never know who's taking their lead from you, who's watching you and deciding that they can be a little braver because you have been brave."
The audience then broke out into a chant of "love is love," according to a report from the Colorado Sun.
"It was exciting, and I felt really happy," Zachary told the Sun after the rally. "I was glad I was able to tell everyone in the audience that I'm gay."
The campaign claims that his question was picked from a bowl of them submitted by attendees at random.

Pete Buttigieg Gives Advice to a Prepubescent 9-Year-Old Boy About How To Come Out As Gay

Judicial Watch Sues Colorado for Documents on Electoral College Change, Files Suit on Behalf of Reporter Over State's New National Popular Vote Interstate Compact
(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a Colorado Open Records Act lawsuit on behalf of reporter Todd Shepherd against Colorado Secretary of State jena griswold for records of communications related to the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which would award Colorado's presidential electors to the winner of the national popular vote, regardless of whether Colorado's voters chose that candidate (Todd Shepherd v jena griswold in her official capacity as Colorado Secretary of State (No. 2019-cv-032310)).
The suit was filed after griswold refused to turn over certain documents in response to a February 4, 2019, open records request for records about the Electoral College debate.
On February 21, 2019, the Colorado House passed the National Popular Vote bill and sent it to Governor Jared Polis. Colorado Secretary of State griswold is a critic of the Electoral College and applauded Gov. Polis's signing of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
Currently, most states award all their Electoral College votes to the candidate who wins the popular vote in that state. But, as described here by the National Conference of State Legislatures, when a state, such as Colorado, "passes legislation to join the National Popular Vote Compact, it pledges that all of that state's electoral votes will be given to whichever presidential candidate wins the popular vote nationwide, rather than the candidate who won the vote in just that state. These bills will take effect only when states with a majority of the electoral votes have passed similar legislation and joined the compact."
Five times a presidential candidate has won the "popular vote" but lost the election, most recently Hillary Clinton. Many opponents of President Trump have proposed undoing the Electoral College. Supporters of the Electoral College point out that it balances the interests of citizens in both large and small states by requiring candidates to seek votes in less populous states whose interests might otherwise be ignored. In addition, under the reform, a state could award its Electoral College votes to a presidential candidate who lost the state's popular vote.
"Leftists in Colorado and other states want to undo the Electoral College and the U.S. Constitution in the hopes of guaranteeing control of the presidency," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. "This attack on the Electoral College would give large left-leaning states and voter fraud an unconstitutionally outsized impact on the outcome of our presidential elections."
Judicial Watch's Colorado counsel is former Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler of the firm Klenda Gessler & Blue LLC.
