On March 24 Bill Gates gave a highly revelatory 50-minute interview to Chris Anderson. Anderson is the Curator of TED, the non-profit that runs the TED Talks.
The Gates interview is the second in a new series of daily 'Ted Connects' interviews focused on COVID-19. The series's website says that:
TED Connects: Community and Hope is a free, live, daily conversation series featuring experts whose ideas can help us reflect and work through this uncertain time with a sense of responsibility, compassion and wisdom."
Anderson asked Gates at 3:49 in the video of the interview - which well over three million views now - about a 'Perspective' article by Gates that was published February 28 in the New England Journal of Medicine.
"You wrote that this could be the once-in-a-century pandemic that people have been fearing. Is that how you think of it, still?" queried Anderson.
"Well, it's awful to say this but, we could have a respiratory virus whose case fatality rate was even higher. If this was something like smallpox, that kills 30 percent of people. So this is horrific," responded Gates.
"But, in fact, most people even who get the COVID disease are able to survive. So in that, it's quite infectious - way more infectious than MERS [Middle East Respiratory Syndrome] or SARS [Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome] were. [But] it's not as fatal as they were. And yet the disruption we're seeing in order to knock it down is really completely unprecedented."
Gates reiterates the dire consequences for the global economy later in the interview.
"We need a clear message about that," Gates said starting at 26:52.
"It is really tragic that the economic effects of this are very dramatic. I mean, nothing like this has ever happened to the economy in our lifetimes. But ... bringing the economy back and doing [sic] money, that's more of a reversible thing than bringing people back to life. So we're going to take the pain in the economic dimension, huge pain, in order to minimize the pain in disease and death dimension."
However, this goes directly against the imperative to balance the benefits and costs of the screening, testing and treatment measures for each ailment - as successfully promulgated for years by, for example, the Choosing Wisely campaign - to provide the maximum benefit to individual patients and society as a whole
As noted in an April 1 article in OffGuardian, there may be dramatically more deaths from the economic breakdown than from COVID-19 itself.
"By all accounts, the impact of the response will be great, far-reaching, and long-lasting,"
Kevin Ryan wrote in the article. Ryan estimated that well over two million people will likely die from the sequelae of the lock-downs and other drastic measures to enforce 'social distancing.'
Millions could potentially die from suicide, drug abuse, lack of medical coverage or treatment, poverty and lack of food access, on top of other predictable social, medical and public-health problems stemming from the response to COVID-19.
Gates and Anderson did not touch on any of those sequelae. Instead, they focused on rapidly ramping up testing and medical interventions for COVID-19.
Gates said at 30:29 in the interview that he and a large team are moving fast to test anti-virals, vaccines and other therapeutics and to bring them to market as quickly as possible.
The Gates Foundation and Wellcome Trust with support from Mastercard and now others, created this therapeutic accelerator to really triage out [candidate therapeutics]…
You have hundreds of people showing up and saying, 'Try this, try that.' So we look at lab assays, animal models, and so we understand which things should be prioritized for these very quick human trials that need to be done all over the world."
The accelerator was launched March 10 with approximately $125 million in seed funding. Three days later Gates left Microsoft.

Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg are working together to fund research for COVID-19 treatments as the pandemic continues to spread
The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the philanthropic organization that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan launched in 2015, announced on Friday that it's contributing $25 million to Bill Gates' accelerator for developing therapies and medicine to treat COVID-19. The contribution from Zuckerberg and his wife comes after the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation launched the COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator earlier in March. Mastercard and charity foundation Wellcome are also partnering with Bill & Melinda Gates as part of the initiative, which started with $125 million in seed funding at its launch. The goal of the project is to develop affordable treatments to COVID-19 that can be distributed at scale. The accelerator will evaluate new and repurpose existing drugs to for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, and hopes to use its research to fight other viral pathogens in the long term as well. The COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator will also be working with the World Health Organization on the project'.
Evaluating existing drugs is particularly important because since they've already gone through clinical safety trials, it would be much quicker to make them available at scale than developing a new vaccine, Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post on Friday. The announcement is one of several efforts that Silicon Valley tech giants are making in an effort to help combat the spreading coronavirus, which has killed nearly 25,000 people around the world and infected more than half a million.
Amazon and Microsoft contributed to a $2.5 million relief fund for deploying resources to organizations working with communities impacted by the coronavirus outbreak in the Seattle area. Facebook has also launched a $100 million program to help small businesses impacted by the pandemic, and Apple said it would donate 10 million protective face masks to relief efforts in the United States.

Bill Gates and his well-endowed foundation have spent years preparing for a global flu-like pandemic.
During the Davos World Economic Forum in 2017, Gates initiated something called CEPI, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, together with the governments of Norway, India, Japan, and Germany, along with the Wellcome Trust of the UK.
Its stated purpose is to "accelerate the development of vaccines we'll need to contain outbreaks" of future epidemics. He noted at the time that "One promising area of vaccine development research is using advances in genomics to map the DNA and RNA of pathogens and make vaccines." We will return to that.
By 2019 Bill Gates and the foundation were going full-tilt boogie with their pandemic scenarios. He made a Netflix video which made an eerie imaginary scenario. The video, part of the "Explained" series, imagined a wet market in China where live and dead animals are stacked and a highly deadly virus erupts that spreads globally.
Gates appears as an expert in the video to warn, "If you think of anything that could come along that would kill millions of people, a pandemic is our greatest risk." He said if nothing was done to better prepare for pandemics, the time would come when the world would look back and wish it had invested more into potential vaccines. That was weeks before the world heard about bats and a live wet market in Wuhan China.
In October, 2019 the Gates Foundation teamed up with the World Economic Forum and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security to enact what they called a "fictional" scenario simulation involving some of the world's leading figures in public health. It was titled Event 201.
As their website describes it, Event 201 simulated an "outbreak of a novel zoonotic coronavirus transmitted from bats to pigs to people that eventually becomes efficiently transmissible from person to person, leading to a severe pandemic. The pathogen and the disease it causes are modeled largely on SARS, but it is more transmissible in the community setting by people with mild symptoms."
In the Event 201 scenario the disease originates at a pig farm in Brazil, spreading through low-income regions and ultimately explodes into an epidemic. The disease is carried by air travel to Portugal, the USA and China and beyond to the point no country can control it.
The scenario posits no possible vaccine being available in the first year. "Since the whole human population is susceptible, during the initial months of the pandemic, the cumulative number of cases increases exponentially, doubling every week."
The scenario then ends after 18 months when the fictional coronavirus has caused 65 million deaths. "The pandemic is beginning to slow due to the decreasing number of susceptible people. The pandemic will continue at some rate until there is an effective vaccine or until 80-90 % of the global population has been exposed."
As interesting as the prescient Gates-Johns Hopkins Event 201 fictional scenario of October, 2019 may be, the list of panelists who were invited to participate in the imaginary global response is equally interesting.
Among the selected "players" as they were called, was George Fu Gao. Notably, Prof. Gao is director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention since 2017. His specialization includes research on "influenza virus interspecies transmission (host jump)… He is also interested in virus ecology, especially the relationship between influenza virus and migratory birds or live poultry markets and the bat-derived virus ecology and molecular biology." JUPITER, Fla. - Over the course of this Covid-19 ordeal, a number of outlandish conspiracy theories have emerged that the virus was produced in a Chinese, Canadian, or American lab. Conspiracy theories have become an increasingly common part of everyday life in recent years, but a new study on Covid-19's origins is disproving this theory. A team of international researchers have concluded that the novel coronavirus has entirely natural origins through evolution.
Public genome sequence data on Covid-19, as well as similar viruses, was extensively analyzed for this study. The results show absolutely no indication that the virus was produced artificially or in a lab setting.
"By comparing the available genome sequence data for known coronavirus strains, we can firmly determine that SARS-CoV-2 originated through natural processes," comments co-author Kristian Andersen, PhD, an associate professor of immunology and microbiology at Scripps Research, in a release.
Researchers from Columbia University, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Sydney also worked on this project.
Coronaviruses in general are nothing new. The two most recent examples of a new coronavirus popping up are the SARS outbreak in Asia around 2003 and MERS in the Middle East in 2012. This new strain, largely being referred to as Covid-19, was only brought to the WHO's attention on New Year's Eve 2019.
Chinese scientists were the first to sequence the new virus' genome, and immediately made their findings available to scientists all over the world. Incredibly, this data indeed indicates that Covid-19 has spread to hundreds of thousands after initially being "introduced" to just one person.
It was this genetic template that allowed the study's authors to investigate the virus' origins. They discovered that Covid-19's receptor-binding domain (RBD), a kind of "grappling hook" that attaches itself to host cells, had evolved to target a specific molecular feature of human cells. That feature is called ACE2, and it is a receptor involved in maintaining regular blood pressure. The research team believe this development was the work of natural selection, not some type of genetic engineering.
Why? The virus appears to be so efficient at its newly evolved skill, that it is essentially impossible that modern science could have created such a monstrosity.

Additionally, if some nefarious entity were really attempting to create a deadly virus, they would have based it off of a known illness-causing virus. Researchers say that Covid-19's molecular structure is quite different from previous coronaviruses, and more closely mimics viruses found in bats and pangolins.
"These two features of the virus, the mutations in the RBD portion of the spike protein and its distinct backbone, rules out laboratory manipulation as a potential origin for SARS-CoV-2" Andersen says.
"It is crucially important to bring an evidence-based view to the rumors that have been circulating about the origins of the virus (SARS-CoV-2) causing COVID-19," adds Josie Golding, PhD, epidemics lead at UK-based Wellcome Trust. "They conclude that the virus is the product of natural evolution, ending any speculation about deliberate genetic engineering."
So, what are Covid-19's true origins? The study's authors have two main theories. The first is that the virus evolved pathogenically through natural selection within a non-human host and then made the jump to people. If this was the case, it's likely that the virus evolved within bats, made the jump to an intermediary host, and then was passed onto a human.
The second theory is that the virus was largely non-pathogenic before making the transition to humans, and only evolved into it's current deadly form within the human population.
At this point, researchers believe it's nearly impossible to determine which of the two scenarios occurred. That being said, we should all hope for scenario two. If the novel coronavirus did in fact transfer over to humans already in its fully evolved pathogenic form, that would raise the chances of further outbreaks in the future.

Russia and Eastern Europe are the regions least likely to agree that vaccines are either 'safe' or 'effective'. In these locations, people with higher levels of science education consistently have lower levels of confidence in vaccines.
For this research, responses were collected from more than 140,000 people in over 140 countries.
For those who question the necessity of vaccinations, Russia is a good place to find likeminded people.
According to a worldwide study performed by the Wellcome Global Monitor, less than 50% of the people in Russia believe that vaccines are safe. And Russia is not alone - Worldwide, Eastern Europeans are the least likely to agree that vaccines are effective.
The Russian Orthodox Church has gone on record, officially opposing compulsory vaccinations of children. And according to this international study, a huge cross-section of Russian citizens share the Church's hesitancy in regard to vaccines.
The Wellcome Global Monitor is part of the Gallup World Poll. They collected responses from more than 140,000 people in over 140 countries, and they asked people specifically about vaccines.
They highlighted pockets of doubt regarding the safety of vaccines in certain regions and demographic groups. For example, people in several higher-income regions are among the least certain about vaccine safety. Only 72% of people in Northern America and 73% in Northern Europe 'agree' that vaccines are safe, and the figure is as low as 59% in Western Europe, and 50% in Eastern Europe.
By contrast, an overwhelming majority of people in lower-income areas 'agree' ('somewhat' or 'strongly') that vaccines are safe. The highest such proportions are in South Asia, where 95% of people said they 'agree' that vaccines are safe, and in Eastern Africa, where the figure stands at 92%.
Eastern Europe, in particular, revealed the world's lowest confidence in vaccinations. When asked whether vaccines are safe, the total number of people responding either 'strongly agree' or 'somewhat agree' barely reached 50%. And specifically in Russia and Ukraine, the numbers were even lower.
Eastern European countries that are outside the EU generally had lower percentages of people who trust vaccines, compared to countries that are in the EU.

The lionized British explorer Sir Henry M. Stanley is buried in Pirbright. His legend says he explored "Darkest Africa" and allegedly said upon encountering missionary David Livingstone who he was searching for: "Mr. Livingstone, I presume." Given our new information into the propaganda surrounding the Stanley, we are wondering if any of this is true. It may have just been a tall tale that sold a lot of newspapers. It may have been a learning lesson for newspapermen that they could make up stories out of whole-cloth and the public would believe them unquestioningly.
In 1874, Stanley's second African expedition was finance by two newspapers , The New York Herald and Britain's Daily Telegraph. The Daily Telegraph's editor, Edward Levy Lawson, later Lord Burnham, co-founder of the Pilgrims Society (1902), was chairman of the First Imperial Press Conference, 1909, and founded the Empire Press Union and while organizing of British MI6, MI5 and GC&CS, now GCHQ)-the last three events all in the summer of 1909.
Henry Wellcome told the story of Stanley's use of his medicine chests full of experimental vaccines in his The Evolution of Journalism Etcetera (pp. 150, 151, 291) that he presented to the 650 newspapermen delegates at the First Imperial Press Conference, 1909. In that conference he asked the delegates to repeat Stanley's efforts to collect toxins, cures and poisons and he would reimburse them to be sent to his Wellcome laboratories in the UK for analysis.
Wellcome helped finance Stanely's expeditions. Stanely also helped Belgium's Prince Leopold II secure the Congo for the Rothschilds and De Beers' diamond and gold interests.
Wellcome and Stanley were both born promoters who used the corridors of power to secure their wealth and influence. Wellcome Trust today is the second largest grant-maker in the world after The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The lionized British explorer Sir Henry M. Stanley is buried in Pirbright. His legend says he explored "Darkest Africa" and allegedly said upon encountering missionary David Livingstone who he was searching for: "Mr. Livingstone, I presume." Given our new information into the propaganda surrounding the Stanley, we are wondering if any of this is true. It may have just been a tall tale that sold a lot of newspapers. In 1874, Stanley's second African expedition was finance by two newspapers , The New York Herald and Britain's Daily Telegraph. In 1888, Queen Victoria appointed Baron Henry De Worms to the Privy Council. His barony was extinguished upon his death since he had no male heirs. However, he appears to have given away his land holdings to the Ministry of Defence which had been under his authority.

Henry (Rothschild) De Worms, First Baron Pirbright's paternal grandmother was Schönche Jeannette Rothschild (1771-1859). Jeanette's father, Pirbright's great grandfather, was Mayer Amschel Rothschild (1744-1812)-the founder of Rothschild banking. See Dict. of Nat. A young Henry de Worms lived his early years on the family coffee, tea and spice plantation in Ceylon actually named "Rothschild." We return to the question of why the Pirbright Institute-the patent holder of CORONAVIRUS-is situated on the same Ministry of Defence property as the Cobbett Hill Earthstation with massive array of powerful, weapons-grade antennas and dishes. And, that is only what we can see from satellite images.

Imagine a Coronavirus specially constructed to lie dormant in a person's body until it is triggered by the right radio frequency.
Imagine nano tech devices that can hide inside a vaccine and be triggered by wireless transmissions passing through your body.
Imagine 5G technology that, on command from Cobbett Hill Earthstation, can trigger nono tech devices in all the bodies of the citizens in an entire city.
Is this farfetched? Not at all.
"Directed Energy Weapons" are being openly disclosed by the military. The lionized British explorer Sir Henry M. Stanley is buried in Pirbright. His legend says he explored "Darkest Africa" and allegedly said upon encountering missionary David Livingstone who he was searching for: "Mr. Livingstone, I presume." Low Doses of Radiation Give Cancer Cells Advantage Over Normal Cells
Low doses of radiation equivalent to three CT scans, which are considered safe, give cancer-capable cells a competitive advantage over normal cells in healthy tissue, scientists have discovered. Researchers at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and the University of Cambridge studied the effects of low doses of radiation in the oesophagus of mice.
The team found that low doses of radiation increase the number of cells with mutations in p53, a well-known genetic change associated with cancer. However, giving the mice an antioxidant before radiation promoted the growth of healthy cells, which outcompeted and replaced the p53 mutant cells.
The results, published today (18 July) in Cell Stem Cell show that low doses of radiation promote the spread of cancer-capable cells in healthy tissue. Researchers recommend that this risk should be considered in assessing radiation safety. The study also offers the possibility of developing non-toxic preventative measures to cut the risk of developing cancer by bolstering our healthy cells to outcompete and eradicate cancer-capable cells.
Every day we are exposed to various sources of ionising radiation, including natural radiation in soil and rock, and important medical procedures like CT scans and x-rays.
Low doses of radiation, such as the exposure from medical imaging, are considered safe as they cause little DNA damage and apparently minimal effect on long-term health. Until now, other effects of exposure to low levels of radiation have remained hidden, meaning understanding the true risk associated with low doses of radiation has been difficult.
Researchers have previously shown that our normal tissues, like skin, are battlefields where mutant cells compete for space against healthy cells. We all have cancer-capable mutant cells in healthy tissues, including those with p53 mutations, which increase in number as we age, yet very few eventually go on to form cancer.
In this new study, researchers show that low doses of radiation weigh the odds in favour of cancer-capable mutant cells in the oesophagus. The Sanger Institute researchers and their collaborators gave mice a 50 milligray dose of radiation, equivalent to three or four CT scans. As a result, the p53 mutant cells spread and outcompeted healthy cells.
Dr David Fernandez-Antoran, first author from the Wellcome Sanger Institute, said: "Our bodies are the set of 'Game of Clones' - a continuous battle for space between normal and mutant cells. We show that even low doses of radiation, similar to three CT scans' worth, can weigh the odds in favour of cancer-capable mutant cells. We've uncovered an additional potential cancer risk as a result of radiation that needs to be recognised."

Autism enhances characteristics such as loyalty and focus which help those with the condition at work and in their relationships with others, experts have found.
A study examining the lives of autistic adults shows the traits which come with having the condition can be useful, but also a burden.
Those who took part in the research said they are able to hyperfocus, show attention to detail, had good memory, and were creative. They also said having autism made them more honest, loyal, and increased their empathy for animals and other autistic people.
Researchers from the University of Exeter conducted 28 interviews with autistic adults to explore the impact the condition has had on their life.
All of those who took part in the Wellcome Trust-funded research survey had received a clinical diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder. Around over a quarter lived independently and were receiving low-level support, a quarter had mid-level support such as a live-in carer and a quarter were receiving high-level support, in full-time residential care.
Overall, most participants talked about autism as a set of qualities they possessed rather than an "illness" they had. Many said they perceived the world differently and had different mental abilities. Some described their exceptional memory in graphic detail, with one saying it was like a "small tape recorder in my head". Another participant said they would "remember conversations word-for-word". Some participants said they had hyper perception of colour and shape.
The ability to focus was mentioned by almost all participants, variously described as "like zooming in", and "unwavering focus". Participants who were employed or at university described their ability to "concentrate" or "hyperfocus" on one task to the exclusion of all else as a huge benefit. This skill was described as tenacity or perseverance, but it could also cause anxiety or exhaustion.
Participants described themselves as compassionate and empathetic towards animals or "for others on the spectrum". Participants said they were open and this was beneficial, but this became a problem when taken too far. Other autistic traits were reliability, integrity and a hatred of lies, as well as an "extreme sense of justice".
Dr. Ginny Russell, who led the research, said: "People told us autistic traits can be advantageous or disadvantageous, dependent on the context, including circumstance, perspective, and the extent to which they were under their control. Trying to separate traits as if they were either problematic or advantageous may be misguided.
"Talking more about the positive impact of autism may help to foster a more rounded vocabulary in autism discourse for clinicians, autistic individuals, and their families."

The AHRP complaint focused on the enrollment of particularly vulnerable foster children in AIDS drug / vaccine experiments and system wide institutional failure to protect the individual child's best interest in accordance with Federal regulations mandating an independent advocate for each child who is authorized to deny permission for a child's enrollment in research.
The foster children enrolled in the AIDS trials were denied the dignity of their human right by having been enrolled in medical experiments without the consent of an independent advocate - as mandated by federal regulations.
ACS guidelines stated: "Separate consent need not be obtained for each child."
This waiver, we believe, is unconscionable; it denied these children their basic human dignity and ascribed to them the status of guinea pigs. The case of the NYC Guinea Pig Kids was included in Harriet Washington's book, Medical Apartheid (2007.

After airing the disturbing documentary just once, the BBC came under intense pressure from powerful stakeholders who attempted to politicize the documentary-30 NYC institutions were involved in these AIDS drug experiments in foster children. Subsequent independent investigations - by the Associated Press, by the federal Office of Human Research Protections; and by the Vera Institute of Justice - confirmed that ethical standards and federal regulations had been violated. The investigations confirmed that most children did not have an the protection of an independent advocate to give or refuse consent to experimental interventions. Furthermore, the investigations confirmed that the children used in the experiments were predominantly African American (64%) and Latino (30%) raising the specter of racially discriminatory selection. And the Vera Institute, relying mostly on the city agency ACS documents, confirmed that children suffered serious harm - 80 of who died.
The Associated Press reported that the scope of these experiments was much wider; extending beyond New York to "at least seven states." Among them: Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Colorado and Texas. AP reported that more than four dozen different studies were involved. The foster children ranged from infants to late teens, according to interviews and government records.
